The two stories you’re about to hear right now are stories which, if they applied to Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, or heaven forfend, Joe Biden or anybody connected with him, would be blockbuster headlines. “Film at 11,” the newscasters would intone and we would all be on the edge of our chairs. Biden (or DeSantis, or Haley, plug in a name) has been sued for fraud in connection with an overpriced device, along with his children. OMG, what a scandal! But this is coming out of Trump world, and Trump is the defendant, so it’s the scandal du jour. So what? Ho hum, turn the page.

In the event you want to bother to keep up with Trump’s scandals, I mean, what the hey, you’re here and reading already, right? Mary Trump reported on her Substack page that Uncle Donald, and cousins Ivanka, Eric, and Junior have been sued for “allegedly duping investors out of millions by convincing them to invest in a $499 ‘videophone’ which turned out to be nothing more than a regular desktop computer with a webcam attached.” Anybody remember that? Trump’s video phone was going to be to cell phones what Gucci is to loafers, the chi chi brand at the top. It didn’t work out that way, like all things Trumpian.

Donald even endorsed the company on The Celebrity Apprentice and claimed he “experienced the opportunity” after doing a lot of research and received no money in exchange for his endorsement. In reality, he received millions of dollars secretly.

Why is this so bad?

This new fraud allegation is entirely separate from the Letitia James’ civil fraud case in New York City for which he may be on the hook for $370 million. Judge Engoron said he hopes to reach his decision by January 31.

The new lawsuit lists Donald and each of his adult children as plaintiffs — and the bills are stacking up. It’s probable that Donald will soon owe even more damages to E. Jean Carroll. Experts speculate that he is also at risk of losing Mar-a-Lago and Trump Tower – both of which are owned by his business. Just tonight, another New York judge ordered Donald to pay The New York Times $392,638 in legal fees for his failed lawsuit against the paper.

Donald has had a historically bad January, which he deserves, but there has been so much breaking news that the media has largely ignored this new fraud story.

And that is not the only story flying under the radar. Mary made reference to this New York Times case. Trump’s been ordered to pay substantial attorneys’ fees to the Times and three reporters.

The most litigious man in the history of the United States is now getting hit with blow after blow for his abuse of the judicial system. Today, he was ordered by a court to pay out over $362,000 [I can’t verify the correct figure at this time UF] in attorney’s fees to the New York Times and three of their reporters after one of his frivolous lawsuits was dismissed. The man who promised his fans in 2016 that they will enjoy so much winning with him that they will get tired of winning, just keeps losing.

Trump has been involved in over 4,000 lawsuits in his lifetime as both plaintiff and defendant. Nobody has weaponized the court system to intimidate, coerce and defraud more people than Donald Trump. Finally, courts have have enough and are dishing out consequences to him and his lawyers.

Trump argued that the attorneys fees were excessive and asked the court to order a lesser amount. However, the court granted the exact amount the plaintiffs requested for the Times and the three reporters who worked on the story that caused Trump to sue. Trump had alleged in the lawsuit that the New York Times engaged in an “insidious plot” when they published their story about his tax returns in 2018. He alleged that three reporters with the Times conspired with his niece Mary Trump to get him. The Court dismissed the lawsuit in 2021, stating that the article was free speech protected under the First Amendment.

You see the pattern here. Evidently, media outlets are so overwhelmed with Trump news that they don’t even bother to report the small stuff anymore. And what does that say about our world, when it’s “small stuff” hundreds of thousands of dollars in attorneys’ fees, plus a fraud suit filed, all in the same day? But this is the new normal, evidently.

It’s good that there are other outlets scoping things out and reporting the underreported. I personally think that the GOP should be held to explain every single legal faux pas by their standard bearer.

As to Trump himself, he’s silent as the tomb today on these matters, for obvious reasons: He can’t blame “a corrupt DOJ” and the Deep State coming after him. These matters have nothing to do with any of that. This is just Trump being Trump and he can’t use his usual defenses.

Let’s see where all this goes. Trump world is a gigantic cornucopia of corruption. It twists and turns for a bit, then it explodes out the end in a great confusion. Maybe that’s the right metaphor for the Trump experience, period. We won’t know until it’s all over.

  1. Hey donnie…I’ve extra camping equipment, including a tent for you and the ‘kids’, and I’m willing to let it go for a small fee. My estimate of its value is 250k. Once you’re out on the street, you’ll find it’s a wonderful place to get in out of the rain. I’ll need to be paid in cash since I hear you write bogus checks.

    • Make sure you go with him to the bank to get that cash. Knowing Trump, he’s probably got millions of “dollars” that were originally Monopoly money and leftover Confederate money and THAT is what he carries around (for those times he actually has to pay for something).

  2. From my perspective, it seems this latest lawsuit, coming out of left field from activity dating back to 2015, may be because the plaintiffs feel Dump is too involved/distracted by his four cases to worry about their case. Too busy to wager his normal intimidation and delay tactics until such time as the plaintiffs drop their case. If true, I wonder how many other probable lawsuits might be over the horizon. I think it would be rather glorious if that was the case. Dump would be spinning in circles trying to figure out who to hit first. Couldn’t happen to a nicer POS.

  3. Boy, do I remember that videophone bullshit. A friend invited me and hubby to a get-together to hear about it and buy-in. We thought about a bit ’cause the pressure to help a friend is powerful. The high-pressure sales guy took us aside to perform his arm-twisting and he proudly brought out his biggest gun….”it’s endorsed by Donald Trump!” We both chortled “Welp, in that case we’re done here! If Trump is involved, we want no part of it!” I was kinda surprised that the salesman looked personally hurt that his never-fail closer play didn’t work on us. That was years ago and I love that I was proven right!! ✊

  4. Donald Trump turns and twists like our bowels, hits the colon, and exits as explosive diarrhea. That was what when I read your comment about v twists and turns.
The country needs a colonoscopy to remove all the polyps.
