Donald Trump loves to tell tales of heroism and near escapes from death. Whether it’s his slightly bloodied ear (which remarkably healed despite being “torn” by a “bullet”) or whether it’s his account of being in a helicopter which almost crashed, Trump wants you to know that he is a veteran of many campaigns. Every media outlet in the country is heartily laughing at Trump right now for confusing Jerry Brown with Willie Brown (and nobody is laughing harder than them, I am certain. Well, maybe Gavin Newsom) and describing a near crash that simply did not take place.

Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, was on Newsmax this morning and asked about the story and she brushed it off because it’s indefensible gibberish on Trump’s part and impossible to spin into anything reasonable. She said, “He’s got lots of amazing stories. He was an entertainer and businessman for decades before he got into politics.” And that was that. But another denizen of Trump world has a different spin.

The tweet ends, “Trump recounted a story about being in a helicopter with Willie Brown that had to make an emergency landing, a claim that was later denied by Willie Brown himself. This incident has led to discussions within the campaign about potential next steps regarding Trump’s mental health and how it might impact his political future.”

The Wall Street Journal is running an editorial, Will Trump Blow Another Election, and the answer to that is, he already has. Now it’s just a question of how stupid he looks doing it. His niece Mary Trump sees this as a good thing.

Here’s some advice I never thought I would give Donald: Talk more.

Personally, I’d prefer he keep hiding and leave our exhausted, terrorized nation alone. But after watching him meltdown on national television this afternoon, I’ve changed my mind. The more America sees this vicious, broken man, the better it will be for Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz. The better it will be for all of us—because his unremitting darkness and unrelenting negative have to be wearing people out.

Donald would never admit this, but the fact that he can’t draw big crowds anymore is making him crazy. That’s an even worse fate than getting knocked off the front page of every newspaper he reads. Having ceded the spotlight to the positive and hopeful campaign of the Harris/Walz team, he’s in desperate need of attention.

He obviously misses campaigning against President Joe Biden. Then the media focused almost exclusively on Biden’s age while Donald’s violent and delusional rhetoric went unscrutinized. But he’s running against Kamala Harris now.

And what a difference 18 days makes. Actually, what a difference five days makes. At his rally in Atlanta last weekend, Donald was a rambling and incomprehensible as he usually is, but he had the kind of bullying energy—focused mainly on extremely popular Republican governor Brian Kemp—that has led a lot of people to believe he’s still cognitively intact. Today, standing alone behind a podium in an echoey ballroom in front of a small gaggle of reporters, he seemed lost and unfocused.

Lost and unfocused is his normal state. And frankly, I don’t think that’s a result of aging, I think that’s who he is. Trump has never had anything going for him beyond his latest exploitation of people with some cockamamie scheme of his, made viable by his inherited wealth. And he has failed over and over again at every single endeavor he’s set out to do — with the exception of playacting on reality TV. He had that wired because that was perfect for him. He doesn’t have the talent to be a real actor, but he had the ability to fake being a successful, self-made billionaire, in a scripted and controlled setting. He made millions being a fake on TV for 14 years.

Trump is falling on his ass and everybody sees it. Here’s a paragraph I found comical from the Wall Street Journal piece linked to above.

Yet with three months to go before Election Day, Kamala Harris and the Democrats have erased the lead Mr. Trump had over President Biden. She’s now leading in the national polls, and tied or narrowly behind in the crucial swing states. The same press that covered for Mr. Biden’s infirmities until it was no longer possible has swung in behind her. She may not do another interview, much less get a tough question, through November.

The last two sentences are what amuse me. The press “covered” for Biden? Oh, my God. They were non stop vicious. As to this obsession with Kamala doing an interview, what is wrong with these people? She is out speaking every single day. It’s not like her views on key issues are undefined or undisclosed. She articulates her platform and viewpoint daily. But hey, if it’s the format they crave, if reporters need to ask questions, by all means. Let’s have Kamala do an interview. At least she won’t confuse Jerry Brown with Willie Brown, or Tim Walz with Ralph Northam, that’s a certainty.

I point this out for the purpose of showing how utterly desperate and despairing what’s left of the conservatives in this country have become when this weak pablum is coming from the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal. And I feel zero compassion for them. You put an unstable, immature personality at the top of a presidential ticket, three times in a row, what else do you expect?

Trump is toast. He’s going to lose bigly, probably bigger than last time. And they all know it.

  1. I have been checking out some video blogs on youtube and there are a bunch of young people there talking about this too. And they are 100% behind the Harris/Walz ticket. The term #JoyfulWarriors is going the rounds too. Along this this one: #KamalaBringsUsJoy

    • Thank you for sharing that. I think it is the contrast that is going to kill Trump. I sincerely do. And I think that’s why the joy and the energy. Biden did a very good job. But he aged too soon and that is what it is. For him and for all of us. ( I say this as someone who has known people in their 80s and even 90’s who are still productive. But the presidency is a hard job.) I still think Biden could have gotten reelected because Trump is so nuts but we don’t need to ponder that now.

The page has turned. We have a new team going in there. And they’re wiping the floor with Trump. That’s what matters.

      • Anyone with any functioning thought process can see that the helicopter story with the wrong Brown is a made-up fantasy told purely for DonOld to fluff his ego, or in other words, a lie. And they add that to the vast litany of lies he has told us and realize there’s never any truth, only more lies.
His glossy facade of mendacity is now a transparent lens focusing in on the tiny, inadequate, flaccid, demented little man behind it.

  2. Here’s an aspect of Trump’s story about the helicopter that no one has talked about. Ok, he was screwed up about which Brown he was with in the helicopter. My next question is did he make up entirely the story about the brown he was with was bad-mouthing Kamala Harris. It seems unlikely that Jerry Brown would be bad-mouthing Harris who had dated Willie Brown. in that case it makes about 80% of the importance of the story totally made up. I say this in a bipartisan manner Trump is mentally unwell. There’s simply no question about that! The irony of all that is that’s what the Trump campaign was focusing on Joe Biden about.

  3. The fantastic canadien singer/songwriter Rik Emmet refers to music as “Raising a joyful noise”. The Harris campaign needs to ask him if they can use that in their sloganeering. Just my opinion…

    • It’s from Psalm 98.4-9.
“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: Make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the LORD with the harp; With the harp, and the voice of a psalm. With trumpets and sound of cornet Make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.”

The Harris campaign doesn’t need to ask Rick Emmet if it’s OK to quote from Holy Scripture.

  4. Sorry to burst your bubble, Pierre, but that phrase was not first uttered by Rik Emmett. The idea of raising a joyful noise is from the Bible:

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: Make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the LORD with the harp; With the harp, and the voice of a psalm.

    Psalm 98:4-9 King James Version

So Kamala and Tim can use the phrase or some variation thereof all they want. No permission needed! (And that’s sure to bust the chops of the Evangelical Faux Christians! I’m just sayin’!)
