Short but sweet. I’m glad that there is more of real time rapid response and social media participation this year than we’ve seen in the past from the White House. One of the advantages that MAGA and Trump use is that they bombard social media with a lot of sheer nonsense. Then either the White House or the Democratic Party has done nothing to counteract the falsehood. That creates a perception that lack of resistance signifies acceptance. Nothing could be further from the truth.
It’s good to see that there’s no lack of resistance and push back on this occasion.

And it goes without saying that the Twitter thread is filled with comments from people who are outraged that the White House would issue something like this. It’s okay if Trump is tearing the fabric of this nation to shreds but the minute the Democrats fight back in kind, then it’s in poor taste.

So GOPers are upset that Democrats are (horrors) actually ready and willing punch back? It’s fun imagining their gnashing of teeth, rending of garments, their shock and WHINING about the “mean” Democrats for not just curling up in the fetal position when attacked with GOP bullshit and lies. I can hear them now: Momeeeeee! I used my god given right as a Republican to kick sand in Democrats faces and (sob) they punched me in the mouth. WAAAAAAAHHHH. That’s not FAIR. I get to do whatever I want to THEM. Jeebus told me it was okay. I’m sure it was his voice I heard! WAAAAAAAGH! It HURTS getting punched!”
Hey GOPers, get used to it. It’s clear from Biden on down the new reality when it comes to their whining about this kind of stuff is:
But … but … Biden is too cognitively impaired to kick ass. I read it in the NY Times! And Jon Stewart agrees with them.
Cognitively impaired. Right!
No more fucks to give. lol
It’s always the same: in government, the party in power are ‘statesmen’ and the opposition are ‘politicians’.
It’s like ‘brave secret agents’ and ‘dirty spies’ (just depending which side you’re on)
But then double speak is standard for groups like the GQP. I’ve never worked out how anyone can be a ‘fascist’ and a ‘communist’ at the same time (the two are mutually exclusive)
“I’ve never worked out how anyone can be a ‘fascist’ and a ‘communist’ at the same time (the two are mutually exclusive).” — True in theory, and I would have not even thought that point required comment until I got some new insights from Putin’s recent activities. Which I also have come to realize, are not all that recent either. True, Putin is a fascist not a communist. But he was absolutely trained by communists. Same could be said for Xi, who unlike Trump still considers himself one. The truth is that while communism and fascism are mutually exclusive, they have quite a lot in common, not doctrinally but in practice. Not that the GOP understands this. For them it just doubles the number of labels to pin on their opponents.
Fascists and communists have many of the same traits, like affinity for authoritarianism, mad for and crazy with power for its own sake, disdainful of the needs, wants and aspirations of its citizens, etc. You know, all the GQP playbook.
They keep repeating this carp about people they don’t like, who are, if anything, none of the above, which just proves how witless they are. More sheer projection.
When I read Marx’s Das Capital, the workers were supposed to have the power which is quite the opposite of authoritarianism. Sure, the USSR’s communism and China’s came with authoritarian baggage but that is because the people weren’t careful enough to take and KEEP the power out of the hands of what ended up being no different than Czars and Emperors and nobles. AND the revolutions in those countries were pretty bloody and that is likely why someone like Chairman Mao was welcomed with open arms. When the USSR broke up and Russia was only Russia, the people had the opportunity to make whatever type of government they wanted–but they had to protect whatever it is they wanted from the thieves like putin and his buddies. Once the money/big business interests went into the hands of the few, well, we’ve seen what happened.
I don’t think communism can work-humans are greedy bastards. Always have been, always will be. Democratic republics, etc. CAN work but the people have to keep an eye on what they have and fight to keep it. But, yeah, you’re absolutely right–one is a form of government and the other is an economic system.
Don’t fall into the trap. Comparing fascism and communism is like comparing apples and asparagus. Communism is an economic theory. Authoritarianism and egalitarianism are on s different spectrum. Authoritarianism is an essential component of fascism, but not of communism. However, communism is in danger of becoming authoritarian dominated because in its pure form it is essentially on the honor system, aPolitical Compass.”nd therefore easily exploited. See “The Political Compass.”
So, it’s in poor taste to tell the truth? wee wee wee
“…comments from people who are outraged that the White House would issue something like this.”
I read this as comments from the Left whining. Sometimes the Left gets too sanctimonious and whines when they finally DO take the gloves if even in sheer self-dense. Strange but true…
President Biden said the blame for the immigration problem was going to be laid on the republicans’ doorstep. Looks like the first shot across the bow has been fired. I do not think johnson has the stones or the native wit to fight this fight effectively. If he did, he would never have allowed the magat morons to vote again on the Mayorkas impeachment. It will result in nothing, will waste time, and will show the voting public that republicans cannot govern. Period.
