Lee County, Florida, Republicans have voted to declare the COVID-19 vaccine(s) a bioweapon, and they want it banned statewide. They sent a proposed order to Gov. Ron DeSantis’s desk.

Sit back and imagine. If this issue gets a lot of press, there would be a lot of MAGAs furious that DeSantis doesn’t sign it. Remember, the hardcore ones believe that the vaxxed can “poison” people through the skin. If he did sign it, he would get buried in a state with many retiree elderly couples (the last generation where the average person could afford to retire), the people who don’t have time to play politics. On the other hand, in the bizarro world of MAGA politics, Trump plans on painting DeSantis (Known to some as “DeathSantis” due to his stance on the virus) as “pro vaccine.” Only Trump and only the Republicans.

From Forbes:

If the Lee County Republican Party has their way, the state of Florida will be banning the use of Covid-19 vaccines. Yes, you heard that correctly. Based on a majority vote, the Party has passed a so-called “Ban the jab” resolution that will now go to the desk of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) for his consideration.

And why does the Party want such a ban? “The Lee County Republican Party is going to be on the vanguard of this campaign to stop the genocide because we have foreign non-governmental entities that are unleashing biological weapons on the American people.”

The irony. How can a group of people be this stupid? Is it stupidity, or is it obstinance? Sometimes it’s questionable whether the resistance is based primarily upon the fact that liberals, universally pro-science, want them to get the shot. From the CBS affiliate in Ft. Lauderdale:

The full resolution is officially in writing. While short and to the point, the resolution invokes a great deal of medical misinformation, calling the vaccine a biological and technological weapon in the first sentence.

Dr. Joe Sansone, the man who wrote the resolution, is a licensed psychotherapist (with no formal expertise related to vaccines or epidemiology) and believes in absolutes.

“If you got this shot, you go home and hug your pregnant wife—she can have a miscarriage through skin contact,” Sansone said. “The injections meet the legal definition in the state of Florida as a bioweapon,” Sansone said of the FDA-approved injections.

I actually feel sorry for this guy—a psychotherapist who is caught in a cult.

I knew an extremely prominent cardiologist, one that was on the faculty of the University of Washington, one that made serious contributions to the use of catheters to both remove clots and dissolve them to stop heart attacks. But he was so MAGA-conservative that he refused to be vaccinated (He was running his own clinic, doing botox shots as a 70-year-old when COVID was everywhere, with no requirement to take it), and he ended up dying after spending his last two months in an ICU where he had worked. Amazingly, on an alumni board where we discussed various subjects, he called COVID “a bad cold.” He died later in the epidemic, well after the vaccine had been developed, well after 750,000 had died of the “bad cold.” Was his resistance obstinance toward liberals? Had to be because it wasn’t based on stupidity or distrusting science. I swear he died because he needed a “fck you” to Joe Biden, liberals, and corporate America.

There could be a lot of pressure on DeSantis to sign the bill, but there will be even more about leaving people the “choice” to take it. It will give Trump an opening. Meanwhile, I am going to order this book when available. I suspect it will be akin to a horror novel.

That book should be mandatory reading in the nation’s high schools. Is belief in the scientific method too “woke” nowadays for 40% of Americans? Scientists usually embrace diversity because good ideas come from everywhere. It’s not a big step. Are we at the point where “pro-science and pro-peer reviewed research per the scientific method” is considered “woke”? It feels like it, and that means we’re all in trouble.

  1. Yet the irony and the hypocrisy is thick as they use every convenience science has discovered. Ban the goddamn evil tv/microwave/etc. It reminds me of the elderly in the tea party receiving social security wanting to end government spending.

    • Long ago, before Trump when Town Halls became all the rage there was a statement that would almost always get made – some senior citizen loudly and firmly saying “Keep your government hands off my Medicare!” I wish I had a dollar for every time some dumbass (and seniors solidly vote Republican) that’s made that statement. I wouldn’t be wondering how I can afford to get my car fixed tonight!

    • Should these dipshits get their wish, the divorce, I suspect their tech factor will decrease exponentially. That ought to shorten some lifespans. A whole bunch of lifespans in fact.
