This shouldn’t take long, but it is sooooo satisfying ro report. In her last block tonight, Rachel Maddow broke reporting from The New York Times that New York Attorney General Letitia James had subpoenaed records dealing with His Lowness’ application for, and lease with the US government for his once proud flagship Washington DC hotel.
She is, of course looking at the application papers that Trump submitted to the government to make his bid, as well as the paperwork he submitted in trying to obtain financing for the purchase. Why? I dunno. Maybe because Traitor Tot has a well proven record of over inflating his assets when trying to obtain financing and close deals?
There were no leaks on that part of the investigation, but another leak was much more devastating to Trump. The thing to remember is that Trump was basically bidding to gut and rehab the historic DC Post Office, and turn it into a luxury hotel complex. Allegedly that’s what he does.
But in the plans, he proposed to build a luxury apartment for full time residence. He valued the apartment at $10 million, but inserted a clause that would allow his daughter to purchase the apartment at the bargain basement price of $8.2 million. Not the smartest business acumen I’ve ever seen, but hell, if he wants to cut his daughter a break on housing, it’s supposedly his money.
But then the wheels started, once again, off of the Trump wagon. As building was completed, and again some time after the property actually opened for business, Trump had to file more paperwork. And in two consecutive filings, Trump revalued the luxury apartment, first at $20 million, and then at $25 million. And yet, in each filing, Ivanka’s bargain purchase price remained at $8 million. That’s not bad business management, it’s fraud. Let Ivanka buy it at $8 million, and then turn around and sell it, probably to a Russian oligarch through a front, for $20 million.
Look, a dog’s gotta howl, it’s his nature. And there’s an old saying of You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Being an old dog, my response is Because the old tricks work so fucking good! Trump has spent his entire career, as testified to by Michael Cohen in front of congress, over inflating the values of his properties when begging for a loan, and under valuing them when it comes to insurance and taxes.
Trump got along for decades simply because nobody in government paid close enough attention to a buffoon like him. But now he’s up against a motivated opponent who knows exactly what to look for, and has a RICO expert on staff. There was no reporting that I saw on Rachel that indicated that Ivanka exercised her option and actually bought the apartment. But once again, Trump’s carnal greed has placed a family member at personal risk. It is a somber reminder of GOP strategist Rick Wilsons iconic book title, Everything Trump touches dies.Â
Is it just me, or did he actually show more affection to the daughter, than to his wife? That whole situation is repulsive to me. I sure hope the investigators make the most of this information.

Well, this IS the guy who bragged about how “hot” his daughter was and how he’d so be on her (presumably if it weren’t for that pesky “daughter” bit–but, you know, Trump). I don’t believe I have ever heard of any father boasting about his daughter’s looks, much less suggesting she’s “hot.” That’s typically the thing about daughters that fathers go out of their way to avoid commenting on–and the kind of thing that fathers would usually punch out another grown man (even a friend) for discussing and threaten any suitor/date who’d even think of bringing it up.
Even when the “purity ring” thing was a big deal and that creepy conservative Christian “daughter pledges her virginity to daddy,” you never heard any dad discussing (at least in open public) the hotness of his daughter. A couple of years ago, rapper T I made a public comment about taking his 18 year old daughter to her gynecologist to confirm her hymen was intact, and while it was incredibly sexist and morally reprehensible (not to mention incredibly tacky), at least he wasn’t out there boasting about how hot she was.
