It’s finally here! To be honest, I was starting to get worried. They’ve been predicting this for weeks, and for all of those weeks, I got nothing. I was starting to look for coal in my stocking, unsure of how I could have possibly been that bad. But at long last it’s Christmas morning, and my present is under the tree!
YIPPPEEE! It’s my very own Nancy Pelosi doll! The bloody Republicans have been promising me one for months now, and it finally arrived under the tree, ready to take out of the box, and start whacking with a stick.
No shit, it’s true. After two long years of “unified Republican government,” this is all that the GOP can find to run on. Nancy freakin’ Pelosi. Gone are the days of running on repealing Obamacare, “jobs, jobs, jobs,” infrastructure, and the ballooning federal deficit. The only thing the GOP can find to run on is the California version of The Wicked Witch Of The West.
Nancy Pelosi causes cancer! Nancy Pelosi wants to take your guns! Nancy Pelosi wants to raise your taxes so high that you end up homeless! Nancy Pelosi is the anti Christ! It was Nancy Pelosi who whispered in Charlie Manson’s ear on the nights of the Tate-Labianca murders! Chris Hayes summed it up perfectly last night on All In, while speaking to retiring GOP House member Ryan Costello; “Democrats are running on healthcare, and you guys are running on how Nancy Pelosi wants to bring MS-13 over to your house.”
Here in Nevada, I am fortunate enough to get a double dose of Pelosi. Freshman House incumbent Jacky Rosen is running to retire Obamacare killer Dean Heller. She is running almost exclusively on his vote to abolish the ACA. And every recent Heller ad has been about Rosen being a flunky of Nancy Pelosi, and how she’ll carry the Pelosi water can in the Senate. Forget the fact that Rosen will answer to Chuck Schumer, it’s all about Pelosi. That, and the fact that California groups have spent $6 million to “steal” the NV Senate seat from Nevadans.
Susie Lee, a long time education advocate, who has spent years trying to correct Nevada’s atrocious public school system, is running to replace Jacky Rosen in the House. I don’t know if Lee has ever even met Nancy Pelosi, and yet she’s being proactively painted as just another “Pelosi flunky.”It wold be funny if it weren’t so pathetic.
The funny thing is that the GOP candidates themselves aren’t running these ads. In fact, here in Nevada, the actual GOP candidates, Dean Heller, Danny Tarkanian, and GOP gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt, are running almost no ads at all! Almost all of the GOP advertising here is being done by GOP aligned Super PAC’s, which are beyond the candidates control as regarding content. Lee, Rosen, and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Sisolak are running oodles of candidate paid ads, but the GOP candidates seem more intent on taking their campaign cash to the caymen Islands for some sun.
This is exactly why the Democratic candidates nationally need to do what the Nevada candidates are doing locally. Keep hammering away incessantly on jobs, the tax cuts, healthcare, and education. That’s what local voters are concerned with, not Trump’s silly affairs. White, suburban, college educated voters in particular are much more motivated by their right to choose their own family size, and the availability of mammograms than they are about whether or not nancy Pelosi gets the gavel back come January.
The Republicans have had two years of complete governmental control to actually do something, and all they’ve done is to enrich their donors at everybody else’s expense, pike the deficit to world war levels, and ensure that one sexual assaulter can get another sexual assaulter off of the hook. Concentrate on the real issues, and let the GOP fixate on a fabled boogeyman to scare their base. News flash, there just aren’t enough of them after two years of living in Trumpmenistan.[ppp_patron_only]
