Commentators are now saying that it is likely that Donald Trump mistakenly posted a “Truth” to both Truth Social and Xitter, a message that was meant to be a private text to Attorney General Pam Bondi. In the message – one that you’ve likely read – Trump fiercely urges Bondi to arrest Leticia James, James Comey, and Sen. Adam Schiff, all Trump “enemies” (Using that term to simply mean people that have done things that Trump doesn’t like). On Saturday, Trump wrote: (Broken up for clarity)

Pam: I have reviewed over 30 statements and posts saying that, essentially, “same old story as last time, all talk, no action. Nothing is being done.

What about Comey, Adam “Shifty” Schiff, Leticia??? They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done.”

Then we almost put in a Democrat supported U.S. Attorney, in Virginia, with a really bad Republican past. A Woke RINO, who was never going to do his job. That’s why two of the worst Dem Senators PUSHED him so hard. He even lied to the media and said he quit, and that we had no case. No, I fired him, and there is a GREAT CASE, and many lawyers, and legal pundits, say so.

Lindsey Halligan is a really good lawyer, and likes you, a lot. We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!! President DJT

That looks a lot like a private text message. After all, who starts tweets with “Ursala: I realize you can’t pay me $500 per piece, but… ” And he does so with “Pam” and then directs her to take action. As is often said, had any other president done this, it would be up for impeachment in a week. But it goes even deeper. Some of Trump’s most avid supporters think that the pressure is now on Pam because she should be arresting people. As Steve Bannon said:

“I’m for much more than accountability. We have to take this thing apart brick by brick and we have to do it now. And finally, President Trump, God bless him, had a bellyful of it. All the excuses, all the tapping along. Which I’ve been saying, you’re getting tapped along. And boom — dropped the hammer and said: Hey look, I love you but hey these guys are still walking the face of the Earth. Why? And I’m going to start putting some people in there if you don’t. So get on the program, and get on the program now. It has to happen now, now, now.”

Except now it’s more complicated. If Bondi were to arrest any of the above, or – really, any of the other clear “Trump enemies,” they now have a ready-made defense. They can cite the matter as purely a political vendetta – “selective prosecution,” and then a good defense attorney can say that Trump has already poisoned the jury pool to the point that none of the above could get a fair trial.

This is an absolute nightmare for Bondi. She must please Trump or risk being fired herself. But if she presses her line prosecutors to file charges against people simply because of pressure from the top, it is possible that she would not only lose the case but face bar sanctions as well.

Trump went too far – way too far, this time. If anything, he has made any prosecution of any of the above (And, quite possibly, others) impossible. Moreover, the Department of Justice is supposed to be beyond reproach when it comes to its independence – never any single prosecution as directed from the top. Bondi must now lead an entire department with careers on the line should they be told to prosecute Trump’s political enemies.

There is also the fact that there are some Republicans who don’t like this look. Sen. Rand Paul has already said that he is against “lawfare” (A term I cannot stand) in any form – meaning he doesn’t like this, either. Trump is putting his own political health on the line. He continues to bank on being just as popular with his base as he is now. That’s a bad bet with an economy that continues to slide. This really could come back to haunt him.

Will he be impeached? Almost certainly not on the above tweet. But if arrests come and there is evidence that he pressured such arrests, after finding insufficient evidence, and a Democratic House? Impeachment is possible. Conviction? It would depend on the economy, but almost surely not. That doesn’t mean that he didn’t go way too far in this particular screw up.

Exactly. Textbook impeachment – of anyone else. For Trump, it’s just Saturday.

  1. I think it is always worth remembering that today’s Republicans in the Senate wouldn’t vote to convict an impeached Trump if he ate a baby in the middle of Times Square. The key point here is that as Trump dismantles our democracy day by day, he couldn’t be doing it without the FULL backing of REPUBLICANS in Congress.

  2. Demented old fart thought he was on Telegram but opened Xitter instead.
I don’t know what makes him think he will get away with this, other than the Subprime Court declaring him untouchable and the fact he always does.
