In preparation for this post, I asked my 15-year-old daughter (Spring Break) I whated to know what they called the drills they do in her high school, where she’s in 9th grade. I asked if they were called “intruder drills” or something a bit more innocuous. Nope. They are called “Active Shooter Drills,” and they are told early in the morning they will have a “drill.” They are on “real lockdown” about once or twice a year, and she doesn’t even bother telling us; too normal. It is usually due to great policing being way overly cautious if there’s any threat near the school. (there’s no such thing as far as I”m concerned.)

Here is what concerns me. GOP Representatives worship guns and then, when a school shooting happens in their district, are heartbroken. From the Washington Post:

Rep. Andrew Ogles (R-Tenn.), who represents the Nashville district where the Covenant School is located, said Monday in a statement that he was “utterly heartbroken” by the mass shooting that left six people dead, including three children.

Gun-control advocates and Democrats highlighted another post from Ogles — a 2021 Christmas photo of his family posing with firearms.

“MERRY CHRISTMAS!” Ogles wrote, adding a line that is often — and dubiously — credited to George Washington: “The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good.”

Merry Christmas! Who can’t see the joy of the season in this family?

That’s them! Everyone has a gun.

And what’s even sadder is that these pictures are almost necessary for a Republican to be elected nowadays. Guns are that closely associated. May I also point out those aren’t “just guns,” either? They are assault weapons. Rifles are meant to be used on the battlefield to put people down, fast, and never to get up again. The shooter in Nashville, this guy’s district, had two of them. Good policing saved lives today. We are often critical of the police. But they showed their dedication and training today because “only” six innocents died. It could’ve been 20 – 30.

He is so sad.

  1. Fuck that child killing nazi…he has no fucking heart to get broken. Evil murderous hypocrites. I’ve read a lot of books on Washington and never have seen that quote. One thing I do believe, after reading several pulitzer prize winning books, especially David McCullough’s book 1776, Washington would not have tolerated traitors. He would have seen the present GOP as a threat to be eliminated to save the republic. If he had gotten his hands on Benedict Arnold after he turned traitor, he would have either had him hung or shot. Something to consider.

    • All of our founders at the time of the American Revolution as well as some younger ones who took part in writing and approving our Constitution would have been appalled at the modern GOP. Hell, when our Constitution first took effect there was widespread belief and hope there’d be no such thing as political parties at all – a rather naive notion but as we know they were rather less than perfect men. Another huge concern was foreign influence in our political system, yet another reason they have been spinning in their graves over Trump and his accolytes on the Hill. And his other flaws? Well, as we know one key factor in sticking us with the electoral college was to placate slaveholding states to get them to ratify the Constitution. But another and almost universal desire was to, in addition to having a means to thwart someone who might be beholden to or too influence by a foreign power to step in should the masses become enthralled with a demagogue. A crass, uneducated man who would exploit things to their own end instead of the country’s. The Electors were chosen as men of judgement and character who would intervene should such a thing happen.

If they’d written down a description of the person the Electors were meant to block from assuming the Presidency it would have been eerily accurate because Trump is EXACTLY the type of person they were meant to step in and block!

As for gun fetishists and their warped interpretation of the 2nd Amendment there’s that pesky first part they oh so conveniently ignore – the “A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the Security of a free State” part. Every state and territory as well as DC has long had one – a National Guard! The days of citizen’s being the Militia when called up are of past centuries. I for one am so fucking sick of these gun goober nutjobs. Just once, I’d love someone to ask one of the politicians in a live interview if their dick has grown even a single milimeter (or their boob size for the women) for all their time fondling their freaking guns!

      • In fairness, it’s not just that they “conveniently ignore” that “pesky first part” of the Second Amendment. Thanks to the conservative whack-a-doos on the Supreme Court, that part was effectively removed (might one go so far as to say, “rescinded through right-wing judicial activism and overreach?”) over the past 15 years.
Beginning with the Heller decision in 2008, the Court’s right-wing majority has continually eroded what had long been considered the “collective” right over the “individual” right. (What’s particularly galling is the Court used the 14th Amendment as justification for the McDonald decision in 2010–proving, once again, the “conservatives” will use amendments when they’re convenient for their purposes but trash them when they’re not so convenient.)

    • His entire family, children included, posed with weapons, He is not allowed to be sad. He might as well have pulled the trigger himself.
