As we hit day 6 of Putin’s war crimes-ala-palooza, we are actually starting to get some glimpses into why his war is going so badly. And we’re also starting to get some preliminary data in on something that I wrote about previously as being a huge potential problem for Putin, and that isn’t positive for him either.

For starters, it turns out that Putin is every bit as fucking stupid and delusional as Traitor Tot. The Ukraine is an obsession for Putin. For him, it is the crown jewel of the Soviet Union, and he is going to be the leader that brings it back into the fold. And it doesn’t matter how he has to do it.

But here’s the thing. While Putin may be delusional and obsessive, he isn’t brain dead like Trump. As reporters are starting to collate information from different sources, one thing is becoming clear. Even before Putin pulled the trigger, he already knew that an invasion of Ukraine would be incredibly unpopular with his own country. As a result, in the runup to the invasion, he not only lied to his people, he even lied to his own fucking troops!

There is actual anecdotal evidence being collected from actual Russian troops, speaking to family members and others, that they were misled. Putin put 150,000 Russian troops along the Russia-Ukraine border, and another 40,000 along the Belarus-Ukraine border, under the guise of military exercises. And it turns out that that is exactly what Putin had his military leaders telling the troops. They zoomed around in their tanks, busting through sheds and barns, firing their weapons, and having a grand old time. And when the time came for Putin to drop the hammer, the military issued orders with coordinates and movement schedules, Don’t ask questions, just get in the fucking tanks and drive. The ground units actually had no idea where they were heading. Little wonder there are reports of Russian soldiers laying down their arms when the realized that they were actually attacking Ukraine in a live fire exercise. And little wonder that more than 6,000 Russian citizens have been arrested for protesting Putin’s folly. And the protests are growing, not dissipating.

But now we come to the part I wrote about previously, actively wondering what would happen, and advance warning, it’s ugly. I wrote a few days ago about how, with the war already being so unpopular in Russia itself, how much worse the Russian civilian population protests would be when Russian body bags started coming to towns and cities all over Russia. But it turns out that Vlad the Imp has a secret plan.

Update

I have had two comments taking exception with Ukrainians taking pictures of dead Russian soldiers and putting them on Russian social media. The implication seemed to be that the Ukrainians were rubbing the Russian civilian populations noses in the carnage. I don’t see it that way. After all, Ukrainians have made no move to slaughter Russian troops where they stand when their transports of tanks run out of gas. They could do that in a heartbeat. I prefer to think that the Ukrainians realize that the Russian army is about to abandon their dead, and want to try to give Russian families closure if nothing else.

Commander of NATO, has been keeping his ear to the ground with some of his former friends and sources. And while his information isn’t definitive, his information is that the Russian army has already suffered somewhere between 3,000-4,000 troops deaths in combat. In 5 fucking days! He went on to point out that we were in Afghanistan for 20 years, and suffered less than 2,500 fatalities. Russia will almost double that in one week.

So, as I wrote earlier, what happens to public sentiment when 4,000 flag draped caskets start showing up in cities, towns, and villages all over Russia? Turns out we may never know, because here’s Putin’s master plan. At least some of them won’t be coming back home!

The United States military has a long and distinguished creed, Leave no fallen man behind. The families deserve the solace of burying a loved one who made the ultimate sacrifice, With full military honors. It turns out that Putin has no such compunction. There is fairly widespread reporting that the Russian military is leaving Russian soldier corpses where they fell, even in areas that they control! It has reached the point that Ukrainians with social media savvy are going out into the fields, taking pictures of the soldiers faces, and posting them on Russian social media with the title Is this your son?

As it turns out, Putin isn’t only arrogant and delusional, he’s a total chickenshit. How long does he think he can get away with this shit? How long does he think that military families will sit around with no contact with their loved one, and yet no definitive information from their government. I swear, if Putin keeps this shit up, it will turn out worse for him than if he had just put his big boy pants on and shipped the poor guys back home.

Obviously Putin has totally lost his shit. It’s one thing to underestimate the fighting spirit of an opponent, but another completely to underestimate the desire of a family to get their loved one back for a dignified burial. This just keeps getting worse.

  1. Remember many of Hitler’s inner command plotted to kill him when they realized he was steering Germany into total destruction. Wonder how many guns he has guarding his house/yacht when he sleeps??? All that power & money & nowhere to run. This is the first time he has tried to take over a whole country. For a KGB agent, he’s not very good at strategy or Intel. If he’s not careful, he will look back on the wistful days of Afghanistan.

  2. It’s a big ask but could make a huge difference someday when things get settled. Taking picture of the war dead and posting them is a good thing, on par with Ukraine allowing captured (or surrendering) Russian troops to call home. IF possible without too much risk wrapping up those bodies and putting them in a mass grave with pictures of their faces and other identification in a sealed plastic bag so that one day they can be returned to their families in Russia is the kind of goodwill gesture that will cause all kinds of problems for Russians who supported the war. It will also make the kind of statement to the world that no matter how much damage gets done Ukraine is worthy of rebuilding and that a mini Marshall Plan effort would be the wise thing to do. It would take a shitload of wind out of China’s sails as they try to take over dominance in the Pacific.

    Something to think about.

    • Yep. Time for everyone to SEE & feel it in their gut what this war criminal is doing. Remember the CSNY song Ohio, ” what if you knew her & found her dead on the ground? How can u run when u know?” The president of Ukraine is an inspiration to the free world!!!! He’s a big part of the spirit of resistance. George Washington served the same role 1775-1783. He stood alone keeping the continental ‘army’ together. We’d have no country otherwise. Weird that history pivots around one person time & again.

      • Now you’ve got me thinking about Washington, who had limited military success against the British Army for so long yet he inspired incredible loyalty with his troops. In large measure it was because he stayed with them. Did he eat better and get to sleep in a bed in houses sometimes while his troops were in tents? Yes, but he was out among them and sometimes up where he could have been killed in battle. He stayed with them in Boston as “The Pox” raged. He stayed with them after the evaccation in New York. As the army was falling apart and down to almost nothing in bitter cold and for the bulk of them their enlistments up in ten days he rallied them to do what they feared most. Attack the Hessians at Trenton. The logistics of just getting men, horses and guns across the Delaware River even earlier before it was filled with huge chunks of ice would have been challenging, yet for all the difficulties it somehow got done. But the timetable was blown and instead of surprising the Hessians at dawn they would have to attack long after the sun was up. The men knew that long odds had gotten even longer but they knew Washington was up there at the front and would attack with or without them so they followed him. And won.

Then would come Valley Forge when again he could have left his army in “Winter Quarters” in their tents as virtually any other commander would have done but he stayed and suffered with them. Is there any wonder that the troops would have followed him to the gates of hell and into fights against impossible odds. Somehow he held them together with force of will and leadership by example and as word of all this spread again it’s no wonder he became our first President and could have remained in that Office for the rest of his life if he’d wanted to. Or even become an American King.

Right now, I think Biden should sign an Executive Order to have the Washington Monument lit at night on all sides with the colors of the Ukrainian flag. If he survives, Zelinsky should be invited to DC and Marine One can fly him and our own President down to Mt. Vernon for a special tour, and perhaps give Zelinsky an artifact from the museum there. I have no doubt Washington himself would approve.

Later, if Zelinsky gets his country on a good track for rebuilding and using what’s happened to root out the (much of it Russian inspired and backed) corruption in his country have him back. And hold a special presentation at the Washington Monument as he is presented the first George Washington Leadership Award, something that a President could ask for Congressional approval to award when a world leader displays exceptional leadership and bravery to protect and advance freedom and self-determination in their country.

        • Great ideas marine! Hell, light up the white house too. Washington was that rare soul who stood at the gates of hell & prevailed, but did something more remarkable…he walked away from power. Quite a contrast to the weasels sneaking around the halls of congress. They think sacrifice means u don’t get to sleep on high thread count Egyptian cotton. “Oh the games people play now. Every night & every day now. Never meaning what they say, never saying what they mean. Oh the games people play now.” Ray Stevens

          • The song Games People Play was actually written by a great but not nearly as well-known as he deserves songwriter named Joe South. I recall it first becoming a hit in the late 1960s. Another tune of his that got noticed back in the day is one that PsyOps people should record with someone singing it in Russian – Don’t It Make You Want To Go Home. It’s a haunting song that blasted with loudspeakers would surely further degrade the willingness of Russia’s rank & file troops to fight. Regardless of nationality, and even when fighting for a cause they believe in troops (and even many of their commanders) spend time thinking about home and hoping they will make it back. Lots of music over time has been about that very thing. This war was always going to be a test of wills – Ukrainians have something worth fighting for which is their homeland and freedom from a country that has a long and brutal history of repression over it/them. Most of the Russians deployed to Ukraine were born after the fall of the Soviet Union. They don’t understand why they are where they are and being ordered to do what they are doing. And they are seeing death not just of Ukrainians but soldiers in ther own ranks & in their hearts know that they are invading a country without any good reason to be doing so. They realize that what their commanders told them about being welcomed by a people who would receive them with open arms was bullshit.

        • sorry, not going to happen. we have a bad history of propping up dictators. it could turn into the Somoza nicaraguan freedom award. how about our support for saddam hussain who was our friend until he was not our friend. We supported aparteid in south africa as long as it served our purpose. I support Zelensky, but I am not going to let the right wing get their hands on an award that supports fascism. trump would give that award to kim jun un just to get a golf course in north korea. btw we didn’t do so well historically in taking on hitler in the beginning.

          • We have a bad history of propping up dictators who will work with us and screw their own people. Putin fits the second part – but not the first. Or did you have someone else in mind?

    • The throughput for those crematoria is, I believe, around six bodies/day. They aren’t there for Russian solders, they’re there to disappear high value targets in the Ukrainian resistance.
