For those of us who watched in horror as Donald J. Trump was installed into power by Russian President Vladimir Putin and self interested U.S. media executives who cared more about their advertising profits than they did the democracy that made their businesses possible, the mere fact that we made it through Trump’s first and, heaven help us, only term of office with our nation damaged but largely intact seems a minor miracle.

Through the efforts of men whom, for the most part, would never have seen employment in a Democratic Administration and with whom most on our side of the political spectrum would agree on very little, men like Rex Tillerson, James “Mad Dog” Mattis, John Kelly, John Bolton and Mark Milley we came through the Trump years with, for the most part, our security and defensive alliances battered but intact, and, with notable exceptions like diminished access to voting for minorities (for which we can blame the entire Republican Party) our personal liberties largely undiminished.

And while the election and subsequent economic successes of the Biden administration were heartening for many Americans, the failure of the Biden team to adequately address the criminality and lawlessness of Trump and his top aides in the final months of 2020 and the beginning of 2021 also gave us pause. How could democracy live on and thrive if the most heinous attacks on it since the years leading up to the Civil War went unpunished?

In addition to this obvious concern, the same forces that worked to bring about the Trump Presidency in 2016 are still out there and doing their best to resuscitate him.

Putin, still determined to weaken NATO and so have an easier path to restoring the greatness of the Soviet Empire he so admired and seeks to regain, launched his brutal war of destruction and attrition in Ukraine to test the will and endurance of the coalition, and, of course, challenge Biden.

Big business in this country took advantage of the to be expected inflationary pressures created by the massive gains in wages and benefits for workers created by Biden’s economic policies to massively increase prices and thus profits far beyond that which was necessary to pay for those gains in wages. Just to weaken a President who would dare to modestly raise their taxes.

Media conglomerates, most notably the New Yorks Times, take any opportunity to diminish President Biden and soft pedal the danger poised by Trump, to extend the favorable effects that his controversies have on their bottom lines as long as possible… the nation be damned.

And, of course, Trump, like my aching back, will not go away, and is still out there – lighting matches and throwing them into the tinderbox of his malevolent MAGA following.

His most recent plan to set fire to this country, charging that President Biden ordered the FBI and Justice Department to assassinate him during the classified document recovery at Mar-A-Lago, and having servile followers such as Sloppy Steve Bannon and Butch Body Marge Greene amplify that nonsense, are but his latest attempt to sow political violence and so weaken the nation to the point that it will accept his rule.

We simply cannot allow this to happen.

  1. I think he’s lit plenty of fires, and all we can do at this point is limit the amount of gasoline he can dump around. Even soundly beating Trump and the GOP in November will still leave enough smoldering embers it could all flare up again with little or no warning.

  2. pootie might have invaded Ukraine in order to get back the USSR and weaken NATO but the fact is he strengthened it-NATO now has new members and members right on his f*cking border. Unless he wins in Ukraine, and here’s to hoping Europe pulls something out of their ass because you damned sure can’t depend on the U.S. for steady help, Ukraine will be joining NATO. That’s a lot of borderline up close and personal with NATO countries. Hell, even if he were to win in Ukraine, he’s just put all of Europe on their guard and I suspect he’ll also have trouble doing business there as well: you don’t purchase shit and give them the means/money to set up for a future attack maybe next time on Poland, Finland…

pootie is a distraction now. Were he to fund trump like he did in ’16 red flags would go up all over the place making trump’s ability to hide pootie’s help likely impossible. And I don’t think President Biden would ignore this-and Garland had sure as shit not.

I am waiting to see what shenanigans the s.c. tries to pull. I don’t know why I think this but I believe they think they can give trump powers without giving them to Biden which makes them almost as stupid as trump. Still, they might try but as I’ve said before, their lives (at least six lives) would not be worth a plugged nickle. Wouldn’t have to worry about how moscow mitch f*cked up the s.c. if they piss off so many people their very lives are in danger.

Yeah, pootie definitely isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.
