There is no time to waste. We have much to do (critical work in fact) and little time in which to do it. The Democratic Party has spent literally weeks simultaneously shooting itself in the foot with one hand and stabbing President Biden in the back with the other. But right now all that matters is moving forward and doing so fast. I was all in for President Biden and no one will EVER convince me that despite the fear and weakness from so many supposed friends, had he accepted our nomination during the fall he’d have whupped Trump. That is now gone, along with the “dignity” Democratic Quislings claiming to be “worried” about his legacy (talk about crocodile tears!) have and are lamenting. However things now stand where they now stand. The President has stepped aside and said his Vice-President, Kamala Harris is the person to take over.
I woke up from a long nap to see the news (my TV was on, but the sound was on mute) and I switched channels. I’d watched the British Open on NBC and now racing was on so I scrolled channels and saw the news on CBS. My heart dropped. Then Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar was interviewed live, and as typical for her she displayed the no-nonsense midwestern common sense I grew up with. I lived my first 26 years in Illinois) Sen. Klobuchar summed up our mission and how we should proceed with her statement I put in the title: Acknowledging there are plenty of hard feelings the plain fact is we don’t have time to deal with all that. We have to GET OVER IT, and later on deal with any hard feelings, bitterness or even grief at what’s transpired. I should add she didn’t hesitate when asked if she endorsed VP Harris. It was an unqualified yes. She was diplomatic about those things, but blunt in the most important thing to take away from the interview which is that Democrats Don’t have time for bitterness.Â
I’ve always thought VP Harris didn’t get the due she deserved from too many Democrats but she’s got game. Plenty in fact and since President Biden says he’s endorsing her to take over then THAT is all that matters. I’d been planning to write an article this afternoon about a story from NBC News I read. (I’ll get to why it matters in a minute) It seems Democratic big money donors throwing a hissy fit over a conference call yesterday. Even then it looked like the President was staying in. It seems even Harris thought so and it also seems wasn’t going to let any replacement talk start to percolate. So their fee-fees are all butt-hurt. I gather many if not all of them not only wanted the President to drop out but ALSO a seat in some “smoke filled back room” to determine who our nominee should be. Maybe even office space in the WH until it’s all settled. Who the hell knows with these people?
Well, it’s not going to be an easy fight. It will be monumentally UGLY and we aren’t talking racial and sexist “overtones” but blatant Racism and Sexism and not all of it from Republicans. It’s coming, and will be well underway by tonight. Having said that I’m all in for VP Kamala Harris to become the next President. And by grab EVERY Democrat in DC, including and especially the “Joe must go cause I’m scared I might lose because of him” had damn well better have come out with a full-throated endorsement. Within the next 48 hours. After which, if his Covid is over and he’s no longer contagious former President Obama should meet up with President Biden and together they give a joint, no effing questions about it endorsement!
It is CRUCIAL that this happens and I alluded to it earlier. A whole bunch of big money Democratic donors and celebrity types (George Clooney for example) who use their status to get other to open up their wallets understand two things. First, Harris has the support of the DC establishment. Second, deal with it and start donating again. For some rank and file voters making it clear that this is no time for any latent or overt racism or sexism a quick show of force, of a unified front backing Harris much of that can be overcome.
As for Democratic wannabes out there looking to leapfrog the line, and/or big money donors that want to do the Democratic version of a Peter Theil with J.D. Vance THAT needs to be shut down. Right freaking NOW! Don’t doubt for a second some of this type of thinking has been going on and as of this afternoon serious explorations of “can we do it?” are taking place. By tomorrow, or Tuesday at the latest it needs to be made clear the ‘virtual role call’ will go forward as scheduled. Biden/Harris delegates need to be contacted and while not ordered to do so strongly encouraged to get on board with voting for Harris when it happens. By Wed. or Thur. at the latest we can have a parade of State Democratic Party chairs announcing an overwhelming number of their delegates are committed to making Vice President Harris PRESIDENT Harris.
Just as we don’t have time for bitterness, we have even less for more infighting. In practical terms all the primary voters voted for a Biden/Harris ticket. Even if they weren’t sure President Biden would last four more years in the WH they were fine with Harris taking over if something happened. So that shouldn’t even be a question. More importantly is that a Presidential while a campaign might be fought in the realm of TV like some entertainment reality show they are won on different territory. The money to buy advertising of course is hugely important. However even more so is ballot access and a well-organized ground game. Because of how their campaign was set up, from the get-go Harris was legally entitled to assume control of the entire operation!
A viable and vibrant state and local GOTV operation AND fundraising are mutually supporting. Each can enhance the other causing both to grow. It takes an insane amount of money and organization to mount a viable national campaign. Many a would be President has gotten part of the way there but the sheer logistics and the money needed to do what major Party candidates can do leaves them with at best partial campaigns. Just ask RFK Jr.
It would take a half-billion dollars and raised in the next month to even have the money to start building what Harris already has at her disposal if made our nominee. Also, it took years to build out what if you are a political junkie know the Biden/Harris campaign has, in conjunction with the DNC doing these past years. Opening campaign offices and hiring staff all over the place. Extra offices and staff in swing states. Money has been allocated for advertising and time already purchased from the national to the state and in some cases local level for TV – at a time when it could be obtained more cheaply. Yep, it can still be bought (assuming ad slots are left open) this fall but it costs a lot more. But money has also been at least partially allocated for that too.
Any candidate other than Harris wouldn’t have access to ANY of the campaign apparatus the Biden/Harris campaign has built and raised money for. It would all have to be created from scratch. There simply isn’t time, even if a bunch of Uber-Rich Democrats cough up a half billion dollars or so by convention time.
Am I both grieving and angry beyond words I should write here? You’re effing right I am. However THAT doesn’t matter. Not now. I, along with everyone else need to set it aside. AFTER the election any of us who want to deal with it then can do so. I sure as hell will have plenty to say (and do) no matter how it turns out in November. However for now and until election day we all need to make what Senator Klobuchar said our guiding principle:
THERE’S NO TIME FOR BITTERNESS

Well put Denis.
“We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”
Benjamin Franklin
Excellent Denis! Harris for President!! 2024!! 💙💙💙💙
When your general gets shot off his horse, you don’t put down your weapons…you fight with whomever takes command. Unless you want to concede the war to your enemy. Until Biden’s announcement, HE was the old guy…not anymore. When you remember all the confused demented shit Trump has spouted, can you imagine what’s coming now that his stress meter is now at 11 on a scale of 1-10, and he’s facing a career prosecutor? A criminal’s worst nightmare.
AMEN, AMEN, AMEN!
IMHO history will recognize Joe Biden as one of our all-time Top 10 Chief Executives and TFG will be battling it out with James Buchanan for the anchor slot.
I’m 79 and stubborn, so I know where Joe was coming from when he said he’s in it “to finish the job”. We know he has the intelligence, vision and know-how to do it, but people were doubting his stamina, and the signs are unfortunately there.
Think of it – three and a half years of cleaning up TFG’s many-faceted mess (the economy, foreign relations, overseas conflicts) while dealing with an obstructionist opposition party as well as threats to our country and way of life from across the world – most of us would have crumbled under the strain long ago, but Joe still has the spirit and desire to “finish the job”. HOW FI-YOU-KING AMAZING IS THAT?????
THANK GOD FOR JOE BIDEN!!!
NOW LET’S GET OVER IT, LET’S GET ON WITH IT, AND LET’S PUT AN END TO THE MAGA MENACE AND PROJECT 2025!!!!
(My apologies for all the upper case, but I feel pretty strongly about this)
