This is just one more tile in the mosaic of a vast right-wing conspiracy which does in fact exist. It sounds like the stuff of conspiracy theory, because it’s so nuts, but it’s real. The faux Christian churches that preach the word of Donald Trump do so for a reason. There is  a White Christian Nationalist movement afoot in this country and has been for some time. Its basis is that the church should come to dominate family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business and government, the seven mountains of society.

There are crossover effects here as well. This “preacher” that you will now hear is subsidized by a right-wing media corporation and his tentacles are in government, media, and religion. These people are dangerous. We would not be where we are in this country, politically, but for a lot of subversive influences such as this man represents.

Again, this is what rural America listens to. It’s virtually inescapable if you’re in the car and driving through these areas. Right-wing politics and right-wing religion dominate. The inescapable irony here is that what these people are doing is positively Satanic but they’re doing it in the name of Jesus Christ. This has always baffled and amazed me, but it is that simple and it is taking place on a daily basis.

Of course the White Christian Nationalists want Trump to win. And it’s got nothing to do with God — not the Creator God, that person — but the God of money. This is about the Taliban-ization of America, turning us into a theocracy. It is truly frightening to contemplate.

Yes, we’re going to be living in Hell if Trump isn’t elected and then an angry, vengeful God will make sure we spend all of eternity there as well. Wow, better vote for Trump tout suite, I mean, damn. These are some high stakes here.

This evangelical, white, faux Christian prosperity consciousness movement in this country is pure madness. It’s central doctrine is, “We will teach you how to think and what to do. You will obey us or be punished.” That is emotional abuse, per se. That is dehumanization. And so it makes perfect sense that people of this mind set would be in a coopt with Trump.

Metaxas may have been legitimate at one time but obviously he had a price and when Salem met it, he turned to the Dark Side. We seriously are in a battle for the soul of America. It’s somewhat astonishing that it has come to this point, but it begins to make more and more sense as you watch the disintegration of the Republican party. That’s the key to all of this, the Rosetta stone.

Look at the pattern: the GOP becomes as bereft of leadership as it has been. A Russian asset celebrity takes over the GOP, miraculously gets elected and is the worst president in history — thereby destroying any credibility that the GOP even remotely had left — and then a cult forms around him. Then the faux religionists jump on his band wagon, along with the disinformation people and voila! We are in the mess we’re in, on the verge of losing our democracy, our way of life.

And a lot of people don’t see it coming, evidently. And that is due to the non stop bombardment of disinformation. To those with only a shallow, partial grasp of what is taking place, Trump is being victimized by a government which is fearful of and jealous of him, not that he’s a criminal who is finally being held accountable. This is how Trump gets donations, by playing on the sympathies of the gullible and the indoctrinated.

It is truly amazing to behold. Our only chance for survival is that if there are enough people in this country, and I believe that there are, to provide a firewall between democracy and this madness and to hold the line and preserve America. I believe that will happen.

I also believe that the GOP will suffer crippling losses in this election cycle. Maybe that’s wish casting on my part, but I believe that Trump has forever corrupted the GOP “brand.” And finally I believe a new conservative party is going to emerge from all this.

  1. George Carlin was one of the wisest people this country ever produced. He, or someone like him, is sorely needed. We can’t have him back obviously but perhaps someone can fill his shoes? Might only partially fill them but that’s better than leaving them empty.

    • My fantasy of Heaven has always been a bar filled with people like George Carlin, George Bernard Shaw, Dorothy Parker, Charlie Pierce (who is still with us) Mark Twain, namely witty critics of culture. In this Heaven of mine, I’m sitting there drinking fine wine and having incredible conversations with these people. I think that would be a fine way to spend eternity.

  2. As a Religion major, I’m surprised,(not really), that these people claim to believe in an all knowing God who will hold a last judgement after we die,(death being a sure thing). They must really believe there is no such thing awaiting them. Wherever they end up, I’ll gladly volunteer to be anywhere else no matter what it’s called.

  3. Remember the phrase What Would Jesus Do? Christians lived by that. Not so much anymore. They don’t follow Christ. What happened to these people (I mean besides dfg?)
