This is the equivalent of an October surprise, this is the Sunday before Recall Election surprise. And it’s a doozy. Actress Rose McGowan, who exposed Harvey Weinstein as a rapist, says that Gavin Newsom and Barack Obama are all part of some conspiracy to protect Harvey Weinstein. Raw Story:
McGowan once alleged that the wife of Gov. Gavin Newsom “tried to bribe” her before coming out about her experiences with Harvey Weinstein. That appears to have angered McGowan so much that she was willing to support a man who has frequently insulted women and even brandished a gun at his then-fiance.
At the press conference, McGowan was asked why if Newsom’s wife isn’t on the ballot that it matters how much she hates the spouse of the governor.
She then turned to attack former President Barack Obama, who she accused of being “in” on the rape and abuse by Harvey Weinstein.
“Obama’s daughter interned for my rapist two months before I exposed him in the New York Times,” she said. “They’re all in it [together] and you know it.”
Hit the Raw Story link and scroll down to the video and listen to it. That’s crucial because when you hear her, she sounds nuts. The video aired on OAN and I can’t embed it or I would. But you need to hear her tone. She doesn’t sound stable.
In all fairness she’s been through a lot in her life and I can tell you from knowing actors, they’re not strung together emotionally like the rest of us. That’s why they’re actors. There’s something they’ve got that works in their favor enabling them to summon up emotions and perform and it’s a two edged sword. This emotional gift frequently works against them, making them do things that end up being against their own best interests. This I have seen with actors and it’s not uncommon. Actors are very self-destructive. That is no newsflash.
I guess this is Elder’s last ditch effort to smear Newsom. I think the net effect will be that Rose McGowan has just smeared herself.
And this is why we shouldn’t view entertainers (stage/screen/music/sports) as authorities or people to be looked up to.
I once thought of her as someone with enough talent and potential to have a great career and for a time wondered why she sort of faded from view. Learning what happened to her explains a lot. She paid a dear price both emotionally and financially for I’m sure privately telling Weinstein know exactly what she thought about him and what he’d done to her. She paid again by coming forward. What I fear is that for all she’s been through people have continued to exploit her and she hasn’t gotten the kind of help she needs. With increasing frequency she seems to say and do outlandish things and her speaking out like this for Elder seems like a cry for help. I can’t of course know the pain someone who’s been raped, much less raped and exploited the way this woman and so many others in the entertainment industry have been. And yes, sometimes men too and in athletics we have learned as well as entertainment. But I know enough to see someone who is in pain and making at best questionable decisions and/or being taken advantage of. Elder and his people got what they needed from her and she will get tossed on the trash heap one way or the other in two days time, with yet another set of gaping wounds that I fervently hope she will find the right person(s) to help her heal someday. She’s burned a lot of bridges already and this is an even bigger one.
It’s hard not to think Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard or in RL, late period Howard Hughes, financially secure but emotionally impoverished. The ending of such stories are rarely happy ones.
I feel terrible for Rose McGowan. Raised in a cult, dealing with the likes of Weinstein and being run through the meat grinder that is Hollywood fame…that it broke her this bad is hardly a surprise. The tragedy of her life right now is she’s got nobody left to look out for her. That makes her pawn and prey to the venal GQP freaks Trump exposed us to.
McGowan seems willing to castigate anyone who ever knew Weinstein as evil, but then at the same time she dated Manson for years, and seems to expect not to be linked to him and his abuse. That all doesn’t make much sense.
I hope she gets whatever mental health help she needs. Those are some toxic experiences she’s had in her life, and I can’t imagine the consequences of them.
There are no excuses for rapists/abusers. There are also no excuses for supporting lies & people that have endorsed WORSE. Hey, you weren’t 2y/o, living in poverty, living in constant danger, eventually found floating dead with your daddy in the Rio Grande. You support those that did this & much much more. 650,000 dead & counting. Get therapy. Get with the truth or just shut the fuck up. You are now the rapist.
I am going to just assume this silly twat is lying. Saves time. That said, isn’t this slander or does it skate under because the folks she’s lying about are famous?
Her lying now perhaps will give Harvey’s defense attorneys something to work with.
