This makes a lot of sense. John McCain considered Donald Trump an “asshole” and an “idiot” according to his former chief of staff Grant Woods. He didn’t want to give Trump the time of day, especially when Trump made that horrific crack about McCain not being a war hero. You may recall that McCain did not speak out about that at once. Now we find out that McCain felt compelled to respond to Trump finally because his brethren, other POWs, were contacting him about it.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever get over it; I’ll be honest,” wife Cindy McCain said, according to TIME. “But I’m the wife. That’s my prerogative. I don’t have to.”
Trump wasn’t invited to McCain’s funeral, which was attended by George W. Bush and Barack Obama. John Kelly and James Mattis attended and surprisingly Ivanka and Jared went as well.
Trump wasn’t invited to Barbara Bushes funeral either and he was only reluctantly invited to George H.W. Bushes’, where he made a pretense of reading a hymnal and singing and then gave up. Trump, like all bad actors, has a very limited range. He can only shine when in his own milieu of vulgarity and tinsel showmanship.
When it comes to a normal human response, on occasions where dignity and decorum are the order of the day, he is lost. You might as well put a shark in the middle of the desert and expect it to thrive. He’s got no normal social skills, let alone the ones required by diplomats and statesmen. It’s all totally over his head.
Then of course Trump refused to lower the flag when McCain passed and even his own White House staff and key Republicans persuaded him to reconsider that. And the cherry on the sundae was when he then bragged, “I gave him the funeral he always wanted. And I didn’t get a thank you.”
It’s understandable that McCain tried to take the high road and ignore Trump but the problem there, for McCain and everybody else, is that silence is deemed acceptance. That’s how Trump has gotten away with outrage his entire life. With people like him it’s best to remember the adage that evil thrives when good men do nothing.

Trump is simply human garbage. By saing John McCain wasn’t a hero because he was captured is an insult to every POW that was ever captured in every war Americans engaged in.
Remember that the former guy is a malignant narcissist: it’s always all about him, and he’s used to being able to buy or bully people into doing whatever he wants.
John McCain was one of my Senators. I didn’t always agree with what he did, but I respected him and knew that he did what he thought was best for the country. He was a good man.
