Either rubles are getting hard to come by and his gas and oil oligarchs are raisin’ hell, or Vlad the Invader has topped off all the tanks of China and India and has no place left to sell, but he has now offered to resume selling natural gas to Europe via the undamaged section of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, but he has been rebuffed by his largest European customer Germany:

Deutsche Welle.com

“Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday offered to resume gas supplies to Europe through the intact part of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

“The ball is in the EU’s court. If they want to, then the taps can be turned on and that’s it,” he said in a speech at an energy forum in Moscow.

Germany, however, said it would not take Russian gas via the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that has become a flashpoint in the Ukraine crisis.

Asked if Berlin would rule out the use of Nord Stream 2, German government spokeswoman Christiane Hoffmann said, “Yes.”

“Independently of the possible sabotage of the two pipelines, we have seen that Russia is no longer a reliable energy supplier, and that even before the damage to Nord Stream 1 there was no longer any gas flowing,” Hoffmann told reporters.

Not reliable.

Understatement of the day.

Not quite sure what the play here is but the article says Germany has 95% of its gas storage facilities full and if they are careful they should make it through this winter in good shape.

Perhaps we will start to hear hints that Europe may be interested in resuming buying again from Russia… they just don’t want to do business with Putin.

That would be my guess.

In the meantime Vlad has lots of ideas to get those sweet Euros rolling in again:

“Ahead of a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Putin proposed the creation of an energy hub in Turkey.

“We could move the lost volumes from the Nord Streams along the bottom of the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea region and thus make the main routes for the supply of our fuel, our natural gas to Europe through Turkey, creating the largest gas hub for Europe in Turkey,” he said.”

That’s all well and good, Pooty, but I don’t think Germany’s objection is how the gas gets to their market but rather who will be in charge when the money starts flowing again.

You are bad for business, Vlad, and here’s hoping this business gets bad for you.

    • Mr. Bone Saw, if he’s smart, will just forget about all that and outwait Putin. But the keyword here is “if”. Assuming that some of those docs Trump is DESPERATELY trying to get back are things Mr. Bone Saw was promised (see Jared Kushner, 2 billion Saudi dollars), he may be in too deep to turn back.

  2. My guess? Germany is going to wait out Putin’s fall and do business with his successor. And that’s assuming that the current config of Russia doesn’t give way to a number of successor states due to a Yugoslavia style breakup.

    • my sister and her family installed a high efficiency wood burning stove this summer in anticipation NorthEast Germany. They are stocked up for the winter.
