There is no room to argue around the fact that Ukraine is a country that has been assaulted and some killed with deadly weapons in response to nothing but Vladimir Putin’s imperialist agenda. How some in the US media and politics have come to favor Russia-or at least sympathize with Russia-is best left to speculation about how all such influence comes about because, absent kopromat of some kind, whether in payments or in secrets, there is no justifiable or even sensible position. To our everlasting shame, the US president is absent on this one, having forfeited his moral authority to simply twist arms, Russian arms. because there is no compromise on this.
Today, Pope Leo showed Trump just how it is done in these situations. Leo doesn’t need to threaten Russia – one never does when in the right. He does continue to put massive pressure on the Russians by rallying world support for Ukraine, thus putting pressure on Trump:

Simple and well said. This is how it is done, not by upbraiding the Ukrainian president in the Oval Office, nor by bending over to Putin. To be sure, Trump has been tougher on Russia during this term but nowhere near tough enough and Russia was given enough room to breathe. That is not how it is done.
Now we will see what happens. As I have written before, Leo is the one world leader who Trump cannot lash out on on social media or give some incredibly uncouth nickname. In that sense, he is freed to press tremendous moral authority over Trump as he did above. Leo no longer needs to even invoke Trump’s name. Trump was the guy bragging about how he would end the war in a day and it is as bad as ever now. The pressure is firmly on Trump.
Leo is reminding the man that there is no room for compromise – no compromise, that’s the peace plan.

True…but Trump depends on two things…his Depends to keep his pants dry, and the cooperation generated by either blindness or fear to keep the masses in line. This Pope, oddly enough, given the absolute EVIL inherent in the USA evangelical cult, intends to honor Christ by reminding us of his messages and life. Billions around the world LISTEN to him. I don’t know how the Catholic vote played out, given the insoluble moral dilemma of abortion, and their stance, but I guarantee they are listening. To continue to stand with an evil man killing children, dismantling democracy, and pushing us into a war with Iran, while the Pope is telling you to stop, may swing some votes down the line.
