Anthony Scaramucci never said he would take a bullet for Trump, but somehow the Mooch has reached the same fork in the road as Michael Cohen did, and made the same decision. He and Trump are kaput. The fracas started, as you may recall, when Scaramucci appeared on Bill Maher’s show Friday. At that time he said that, “I do try to defend him, but there are certain things he’s done that are absolutely indefensible. What I’m astonished by is the lack of courage of Republican elected leaders not to pick up the phone and call him out.” Scaramucci also went on to say that he wished Trump would stop saying that a tariff is something that the Chinese will pay, when it’s a tax that “lower middle income people and small businesses pay.” Well, Donald Trump wasn’t going to sit still for that blasphemy, evidently, because he went off his nut and started tweeting at Scaramucci Saturday. This tantrum was particularly deranged and lie filled, so it’s worth sharing.

Fact: Scaramucci was on MSNBC years before Trump got the GOP nomination and Trump undoubtedly knows that.

Fact: There were zero “great meetings with numerous patients in El Paso.” Trump literally stooped to having that orphaned two month old baby, whose parents died shielding him from bullets, brought in for a photo op. While it’s been said time and again that Trump has hit a new low, even for him, it’s going to take a while to bottom this. Trump is beyond pathetic.

In any event, the gauntlet was thrown down on Saturday, and so on Sunday, Scaramucci got on the phone with Axios:

Driving the news: In a phone interview on Sunday afternoon, Scaramucci compared Trump to a melting nuclear reactor and said he may support a Republican challenger to Trump.

  • “We are now in the early episodes of ‘Chernobyl’ on HBO, where the reactor is melting down and the apparatchiks are trying to figure out whether to cover it up or start the clean-up process,” Scaramucci said.
  • “A couple more weeks like this and ‘country over party’ is going to require the Republicans to replace the top of the ticket in 2020.”

Scaramucci, who has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republican candidates, including Trump’s 2016 campaign, said that if Trump “doesn’t reform his behavior, it will not just be me, but many others will be considering helping to find a replacement in 2020.”

  • “Right now, it’s an unspeakable thing. But if he keeps it up, it will no longer be unspeakable. The minute they start speaking of it, it will circulate and be socialized. We can’t afford a full nuclear contamination site post 2020.”

I’ll hand it to Scaramucci, comparing Trump to a full blown disaster with a terrible after affect for many years, a nuclear reactor meltdown, is an accurate and compelling metaphor. Maybe he’ll be forthcoming with more as the ramp up to Election 2020 continues. Trump claims Scaramucci doesn’t know him. Might be interesting to see just what he does know.

  1. Scaramucci is entertaining in the same way avenatti was. He knows how to get under trumps skin. Sociopaths are falling out of the trees.

    • Scaramucci is going to be so much better off not defending Trump. He always came across as an ass when he did so. What he said today comes across as wisdom. I like his new persona.

  2. Another sign that this is going to end one way or another but NOT in Trump’s favor. Mooch is an opportunist and a loudmouth. Under other circumstances, he’d be standing with Trump. But now that DT is wearing the crown, he thinks he has nothing to fear but Putin. This WILL trickle down to the rest of the GOP in terms of donations. Making the RNC his personal piggy bank will affect more than just him.

      • Why, Trump, of course. As I recall, he did a hostile takeover of the RNC by merging it with his reelection campaign…which just so happens to give him access to the former’s funds.

        • I don’t see it as a hostile takeover. Ronna Romney McDaniel can’t praise Trump enough. The GOP loves their Frankenstein’s monster.

          • Which is why they will never deny him anything he asks for, which certainly includes the exchequer. I imagine that it wasn’t as easy as one faction’s support either…there was a systematic purge to make this happen. They don’t love him…they fear what else he can do to them. Being that kind of afraid is foolish in their case. Their fear will come true soon enough.

    • Yeah, the White House is always being renovated, per Trump. And Buckingham Palace was supposedly under renovations when he was in London, and that’s why he couldn’t stay there. Had nothing to do with the fact that the royals hate him.
