Soon to be ex-defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio

Poor Dan Snyder, owner of the NFL’s Washington Commanders, just can’t catch a break.

Which many, including myself, would contend is a good thing.

Snyder spend years resisting changing the name of his franchise from The Washington Redskins to something less insensitive, endured one year in purgatory with his team being called “The Washington Football Team” while some dream committee he had created combed through the myriad cool mascot possibilities and settled on “Commanders”.

Sheesh.

Now, on the very eve of the January 6th Committee’s televised coverage of the hearings on the attack of the U.S. Capitol, he has his bonehead of a Defensive Coordinator pooh-pooh the attack, characterizing it as a “dust-up”…

HuffPo

“I can look at images on the TV, people’s livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down, no problem,” Del Rio said. “And then we have a dustup at the Capitol, nothing burned down, and we’re going to make that a major deal. I just think it’s kind of two standards, and if we apply the same standard and we’re going to be reasonable with each other, let’s have a discussion. That’s all it was. Let’s have a discussion.”

Alright, Jack, let’s have that discussion.

In no coherent worldview do protests against five hundred years of enslavement, oppression, beatings, lynchings, gang murder, police violence and false incarcerations equate to the pissy complaints of entitled white men disappointed that their favorite racist lost an election.

Good discussion.

Now, please, STFU.

As is custom when scrambling to put out the fire you have started that threatens to burn your livelihood down to its foundation, Del Rio has issued an apology:

It was not well received:

So shuffle off to infamy, Jack, or to OAN or NewsMax or wherever old fascists go to earn a buck.

And, hey, Dan Snyder, can we have a word? Why not the Ospreys? That would have been a killer choice.
