OMG. Trump Just Told the World He’s “President Of the United States” Now, In A Xmas Greeting

I listened to what you’re about to hear six times just to make sure that I was really hearing it. Donald Trump just posted this clip around midnight ET. The clip starts out, “As president of the United States it’s my tremendous honor to finally wish America and the world a very Merry Xmas.” As stated, I replayed the beginning six times. I wanted to see if he said “former.” He did not. Plus, you can make out the screen captioning says, “As the President of the United States.”

Now it gets weirder, still. Trump made this pronouncement in a two minute clip on Truth Social. He did not repost it to the Twitter/X account. Why is that? I can only surmise because the people on X will leap up in outrage and ask him what the holy hell is he doing. Truth Social is the platform for the cult. He can say anything he wants to the cult. Although I would think that even they must be wondering why he’s saying he’s the president. Maybe it’s a nod to QAnon. See what you think. (Sorry I can’t embed the video.)

There is a Xmas greeting in Trump’s X feed, which is a video of the song Have Yourself A Merry Little Xmas and that was posted on the platform after Trump posted the Truth Social greeting. So things are getting cross-posted. But not what you just saw. I can only assume it’s because Trump, or his aides at least, know that this will cause a shitstorm, as well it should. Trump, or anyone, has no business calling him or herself the president of the United States. In December of 2023, that title belongs to Joe Biden. Period. Anybody else claiming the title is some kind of a psychotic clown.

I frankly don’t even know if what he did was legal or not. Can you get up in front of a camera and proclaim yourself to be president of the United States — when you’re not? I honestly don’t know if there’s a law against such a thing. Can I put up a video on social media tomorrow wishing America and the world a Merry Xmas in my capacity as Queen of England?

And you notice Melania is right there beside him while he does this psychotic rant. I guess she thinks it’s just fine. She’s there with him in her capacity as First Lady, I guess.

So what’s the bottom line here?

1. Trump believes he’s still the president?
2. Trump knows he’s not but thinks it’s entertaining for the base to tell them that he is?
3. Trump is deeper down the QAnon rabbit hole than we know and this is a ratification of all that madness about him still being in office, while Biden pretends to govern from a movie set?
4. Trump has finally gone batshit and he doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not?

Well, Xmas morning 2023 just got a whole lot kookier. I can’t see how he’s going to justify this. I can’t see how Team Trump is going to respond to this. Are they going to go for the standard default position that it was meant “as a joke?” I can’t see selling that one. It’s impossible for anybody to justify this because it’s just plain crazy.

And of course the Truth Social thread is jammed with Xmas greetings “to president Trump.” I think we may have to remove the tradition of calling former presidents “president” if it’s going to be abused like this —  although it would be tragic to deny the honorific to Bill Clinton, or Dubya or Jimmy Carter or Barack Obama, because they did indeed serve the nation in that capacity. But you would never see one of them announcing that he was the president in 2023 like nut case Trump just did.

Although I imagine that the defense will be that since it’s common for former presidents to be called “president” that Trump had a right to do it. But being referred to as president for having once held the office and announcing yourself, “As the president of the United States…” are two different things. Trump’s saying, “As the president,” means “as the president NOW,” as the sitting president, which he emphatically is not. That’s a plain English interpretation of the sentence, in any event.

Get ready for it to hit the fan, folks. This is too strange even for Trump. And I would love it if some reporter could get Madame Melania to explain why she thinks this is okay and ask her if she believes she’s still the First Lady.

Man. You let lunatic trash infest the White House and they still think they live there even after they’ve been evicted.

George H.W. Bush and every other holder of the office of president is rolling in his grave tonight. The institution of the presidency just got debased several more notches tonight. This is appalling. But it’s not unthinkable. In fact, it’s vintage Trump. It’s just him being himself. He’s playing bigshot and moral leader tonight. And that’s fine. He can knock himself out doing that. Please proceed. But he may NOT preface his remarks, “as the president of the United States.” Only one person can use that language right now, and that’s Joe Biden. Wait’ll Joe wakes up and hears this. At least he’ll get a good laugh with his morning coffee and Xmas cinnamon roll.
