For the nth time I will say, if you wrote this as a screenplay, nobody would believe it. If a script like this came in over the transom (Hollywood lingo for unsolicited) it would soon be grinned over and then round-filed. Nobody would believe so much of what we have seen in the past ten years since Trumpty Dumpty came down the escalator. It is simply too implausible. But here’s a British newscaster to tell you that the Trump administration is so etiquette free and ignorant, that they don’t know which way to fly the Union Jack over Blair House, the guest residence across the street from the White House, where the Prime Minister is staying.

And of course the MAGAs are defensively saying that the flag looks the same either way, bla bla. Granted, it’s a symmetrical flag, for the most part, but there is a broader stripe depending on which way is up. The point is that screw ups like this don’t happen in other presidential administrations because etiquette is observed.
But Trump and company don’t bother. Melania, for example, is notorious for ignoring etiquette. She never wears hose. I don’t know what that’s about, I just know it to be a fact. So basically she has presented to the Court of St. James dressed like a Piccadilly tart, when the proper etiquette is you put on a pair of hose. Melania also wore one of her hats inside Buckingham Palace, not knowing to take it off. Again, this may sound petty but this is diplomacy. This is culture. This is international relations. You dress for the occasion. You respect the norms. But not if you’re a Trump.
And then we have this travesty. Listen to it. At first blush it appears to be Trump telling Prime Minister Keir Starmer to shut up.

If you’re ready to lose bowel control, join the rest of us. How could Trump have done such a thing? MAGAs in the comments thread are jumping up to defend Trump, saying he was talking to a member of the press. And listen, if I find a clip that puts this in greater context, I will post it. We don’t smear Trump here. We don’t have to. He does enough on his own that nobody needs to present him in a bad light, he does it all by himself.
If in fact the “that’s enough” was meant for a reporter, that’s not too cool either. If Trump was wrapping the presser, for instance, he could have said, “Thank you” and then “that’s enough, we’re done for the day,” words to that effect. And there would have been no jarring effect. Here’s another jewel, while you’re here.

Ah yes, Donald Trump, man of the world. Leader of the western world. Creator of foreign policy. One of the flaws in the Constitution is that it largely leaves control of foreign policy to the president. Which is why Trump managed to trash us globally the first time around and he’s only gotten worse. And the world situation is worse than the first time he was in office, as well.
Well, there’s another ally that’s pissed. How many do we have left, anybody counting? Russia only? That’s probably about the size of it. The French humor this madman, so do the Brits, the Canadians are disgusted, Greenland and the Danes are appalled, the Panamanians are in shock, and the Mexicans have told him where to stick it. And now we’ve offended the Aussies. What about Iceland or New Zealand? Has Trump threatened to nuke them if they don’t become a state? I probably shouldn’t have mentioned it. That’s what he’ll do next.
Who’s left to rally around this particular ugly American other than the Russian dictator? What a fiasco.

These world leaders come to visit Trumpler because that’s what they must do to keep up appearances of normality, when in fact nothing is normal in Trumpland. The American president is a mentally ill man who’s obeying orders from his handler in Moscow, and nothing the western leaders can say or do will budge him from that position. But they must try or fail at being leaders. They’ll go home even more convinced that the USA is no longer the champion of western values and cannot be depended upon to behave responsibly. There are no adults in the White House now.
You’ll get no argument here. The leaders of other countries come here to humor a dementia patient and hope for the best.
I had not noticed the asymmetry before … but I checked by taking of a clip art picture of an uimage where the asymmetry is clear, made two copies, and turned one upside down and the asymmetry is the same bothe ways . How, seiously, do they tell the difference? (And what do they have against St. Andew to skew hia cross likw that?
Oh, wait – it just clicked – upside down and backwards there would be a difference, and on account of flags having mountings onlt on one end, upside down would also be backwards. Sorry.
