This isn’t at all surprising, considering it’s coming from the lips of a man who self-identifies as “The Chosen One.” Donald Trump spoke with Geraldo Rivera on Fox News Thursday morning and he said that Joe Biden is “against the Bible.”

Anybody care to wager that Joe Biden can name at least one verse from the Bible, which Donald Trump cannot?

This is going to get very ugly, but I can’t say I’m surprised. Trump doesn’t know where the lines are drawn, he never has. He is now exposing his total lack of breeding and he doesn’t even know it. A lot of people, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, to name two, were raised with a religious component in their lives. Trump trashed Pelosi at the annual Prayer Breakfast, of all places, for saying that she prayed for him. I don’t doubt that she does. And Joe Biden attends communion and gets his ashes on Ash Wednesday. He’s a nice Irish Catholic man. Trump didn’t get any kind of moral teaching in his youth. A lot of people don’t, but they pick it up later, reading philosophy and literature, if nothing else. Trump has no moral compass. And he has no standards. Nor decency.

His latest attack ad on Joe Biden depicts Biden “hiding in his basement” and at one point Biden is bent over, we are led to believe, in despair. No. That photograph of Biden was taken at the African Episcopal Church in Delaware where he went to pray, following the murder of George Floyd.

Trump doesn’t know what kind of fire he’s playing with. He’s depicting Biden as “weak” and paradoxically, faith in God has been regarded over the centuries as a sign of character and the way of the strong. Trump is clearly trying to keep the evangelical vote, but there are a lot of traditional Christians who are absolutely not going to stand for this. Look for the blow back to be leviathan on this one, is my prediction.

Two thoughts for Donald Trump: “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread” and here’s a good Biblical verse for him, since he doesn’t know any: “He who bothereth in his own house shall inherit the wind.” He’s not just going down in flames himself, he’s taking the GOP with him.

  1. No matter what he says or does, it all just seems to make things worse for him and like you said merely expose him for what he is. That’s not an impressive sight, nor will it earn him re-election.

    • Trump has already incurred the wrath of Christianity Today and other Christian periodicals. I don’t think this is a wise choice on his part. Religious wars go nowhere except to bloody destruction. They’re not won, they’re given up on.

    • His base. OMG his base. They believe everything out of their cult leaders mouth. They drink his verbal Kool Aid daily. Truth doesn’t matter to them. I hope he keeps making things worse for himself. But…..he’s also making it much worse for the division in our country. I’m so damned f*cking tired of seeing him and can’t wait until he’s dead.

      • Patience, Bead…you won’t have long to wait. And look for the Trumpies to be a lot less loud and proud when they lose in November (yeah, I went there).

  2. I’d be willing to bet that Trump doesn’t know the shortest verse in the bible. It’s only two words in length. I I suspect every other kid I learned it, and we all laughed while I was growing up at that scene in The Walton’s where the lady from out of town was giving out toys for Christmas but to receive one a child had to cite a bible verse. “Mary Ellen” was helping kids out as more kids (not just the Walton family) was going through all the verses young children tend to remember, and at the end when she was stuck trying to come up with some inspirational verse one of the young children could remember she resorted to the fallback of this simple, two word verse. The out of town lady was overwhelmed! (The toys would turn out to be crap btw, as in broken), a warning about out of towners supposedly doing good to collect donations)

I’d imagine anyone reading this knows the verse I’m talking about, at least if they grew up in a home where church on Sunday was a regular part of life. For anyone who might have forgotten, or didn’t grow up in the Christian faith here’s a hint. There are numerous instances in the Gospels about Jesus concern for children, and even his rebuking those who tried to keep children from approaching him. His overall message was after all one of caring for the most vulnerable and children, regardless of whether their parents were poor or not were the most vulnerable. Keeping all that in mind imagine the Jesus that Christians and “KKKristians” worship, and that he’s been secretly living among us in recent times just watching and waiting for the moment to reveal himself.

Then imagine his concern for children, and seeing our government rip children from their parents, and lock them up in cages to sleep on bare concrete floors and deny them even soap and running water because (and a govt. lawyer actually stated it to a judge in open court!) such things were not “basic necessities.” Imagine two words that would describe Jesus’ reaction.

    “Jesus wept.”

Trivia – in the sense of Jeopardy! format of “This famous phrase in the New Testament is the shortest verse in the bible.”

Who else is willing to bet Trump wouldn’t be able to answer it? If he goes down to the kind of defeat he so richly deserves to suffer this fall he will be saying things about Jesus and Christians that I HOPE someone manages to record. The cursing of Jesus and his followers, the KKKristians who couldn’t save him at the polls would give me flashbacks to my jarhead days! If one or more of those diatribes made it into the news, especially if someone got it on video is perhaps the one thing that might finally make “the scales fall from their eyes” and make these dumbasses realize the “Golden Calf” they’ve been worshipping to the point of maybe even more than their Jeebus isn’t just a false idol but maybe even the anti-Christ.

    • Actually, the context for the shortest verse was Jesus standing before the tomb of his dead friend Lazarus, already four days in the tomb, just before he raised him from the dead. Onlookers marveled at his deep concern for his friend.

      • I sort of assumed that people would understand the point about Jesus and children and that the Christ of the bible would weep over what Trump has done to children. IOW know the story of the verse but translate it into current context. Sorry for not making the point clear.

    • I’ll bet he doesn’t even know that the “Corinthians” chapters aren’t written by actual Corinthians. And if told those chapters were letters to the Corinthians Trump wouldn’t be able to name who wrote them! I’m starting to think if you asked him how many “Gospels” are in the New Testament that Trump wouldn’t know, much less be able to name the four apostles who’s gospels got included – as a kid I wondered why there were only four and couldn’t get an answer from any adults at church. Some less than kind looks (the “just forget about it and let’s move on/talk about something else” type) and even my mom (who taught my Sunday School class for a little while) got impatient with me and said I’d understand better when I was older. Eventually I’d learn how what we know as the bible came to be, and that in fact all of the apostles and Mary too had gospels they’d passed down and were (generations after their deaths) actually written down. Alas, only four “made the cut” for the work Constantine commissioned. Why is a whole different can of worms but the point is that if you asked Trump to name the authors of the gospels I don’t think he could do it!

      • The fact is no one knows who wrote the gospels, but biblical scholars have figured out a lot of stuff. Thomas was prob around 80 years after with Mark close to same time. The rest were later & used material from all kinds of sources. The irony is they make two mistakes. First, they know nothing of the cultures etc., so they don’t respect the complexities of the documents. Second, the profound truths are easy to grasp just hard to do. Love God with all your heart,MIND,soul & strength, love your neighbor as yourself. They ignore the basic truths, which remain consistent through all religions. Let’s face it, there’s also the human reality, well documented, that the disciples, who ate, slept, etc., with Jesus, yet still misunderstood him at every turn & abandoned him in the end.

  3. Mr. Magoo thinks the book is the perfect weapon. He’s wrong of course. Oh, & I guess he, & the republicans, & the evangelicals have forgotten a judgment is coming from an all powerful & all knowing God, which is THEIR belief system. Uh-Oh

  4. Are you implying that Trump’s daughter or fan-base will leave him as Reverend Brown’s daughter did if he doesn’t tine down his hateful speech? Alas, he won’t (because he is incapable) and they won’t (for reasons I truly cannot comprehend, other than a complete incapacity at critical thinking)
    My thoughts.

    • Ah, but Rachel Brown had Bert Cates to look up to, had his support and love. As he had hers.

The MAGAT cult have gone all-in on Donald, and even if they have sane family who would welcome them back, they’re too proud to admit their errors.

  5. In the NIV, the verse reads, “Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.”
