Remember the Occupy Wall Street Movement? Sure, it fizzled out due to infighting and lack of leadership but for the better part of two months it made quite a stir. To refresh your memory the main message is that the ‘One Percenters’ in control of Wall Street and corporate America were putting the screws to the rest of us – the ’99 Percenters.’ There was considerable highlighting of a handful of individuals with ENORMOUS wealth using all that money not to benefit the masses but simply to gain more power and influence. Names were named sometimes including the a-hole I’m writing about.
Elon Musk represented everything the Occupy Wall Street was against. Someone with too much money and power. If any of what he did (i.e. electric vehicles) was of benefit to others it was less about benefiting society than making a boatload more money capturing and controlling a new, untapped market for a product. In all the years since Occupy Wall Street had its big moment in the spotlight Musk has only gotten worse. He spent well over $250 million to get Trump elected and that’s just the money part. The ‘in-kind’ contribution of the use of his social media platform twitter/X is incalculable. It’s clear Elon Musk feels he’s bought himself a form of ‘co-Presidency. And not long ago he, the world’s richest person quite clearly said us regular folks were going to have to ‘endure some pain.’ Folks like him can’t be expected to pay a bit more in taxes or deal with pesky government regulations after all!
Well, that stuff about us regular folks having to be willing to due our duty for America and suffer for a while (a LONG while) was two or three weeks ago. This week we have Elon doing all he could to blow up a government funding deal and create the very real prospect of a shutdown this weekend. Just in time for Christmas. Ho effing Ho thanks to Elon f**king Musk. And NOW the Occupy Wall Street folks want to sing Musk’s praises? What the hell?
Well, according to Newsweek that’s exactly what’s now going down. Occupy Wall Street is back, and praising Musk! Again I ask WHAT THE HELL??? Still, what’s left of the movement has decided now of all times is the time to sing Musk’s praises:
In a post published on Wednesday, the first on the platform since March 28, 2020, the movement shared pictures of its members and Musk wearing “Occupy Mars” T-shirts, writing: “We shall be the first interplanetary social movement. Thank you @SpaceX and @elonmusk for carrying our legacy to the stars.”
Apparently the leaders of Occupy Wall Street, who like Musk will enjoy a comfy and privileged Christmas and holiday season have decided Musk’s recent wearing of an ‘Occupy Mars’ t-shirt at a Trump rally is cool beans. Musk to them is a ‘visionary’ and thus should be celebrated. Never mind that his rocket that would send astronauts to Mars isn’t even capable of ensuring safe and regular flights to the moon and back! That’s a longer subject. And I have no problem with one day sending humans to Mars and even colonizing it. I just think at the moment Musk is concentrating on different matters and those matters are going to HURT countless millions of people!
I could go on a real rant about all this crap. I’d settle for a bunch of Musk’s Starlink satelites falling out of orbit and crashing into not only his collection of houses but those of these Occupy Wall Street a-holes. People who’ve chosen NOW of all times to say what a ‘great guy’ Elon Musk is! People who railed against individuals like Musk at one time. Yet now after Musk spent what isn’t even tip-money (more like a little pocket change that spilled from his hand) to be co-President suddenly think he’s not such a bad guy after all.

What exactly is “Occupy Wall Street”? I mean, as an organization. The reason I ask is, to say “Occupy Wall Street” has changed its whole outlook is meaningless unless it’s the same “Occupy Wall Street”. Not that I know the details — I don’t. But I do think that Occupy Wall Street, whatever its accomplishments over its brief former life of 59 days, iwas much more of a spectacle than an organization. Yes, behind it was a “movement,” predominantly anarchist, with no formal leadership or structure. My purpose here is not to criticize the 2011 Occupy Wall Street, but rather to question how much of its spiritual DNA the present OWS has, or even if it does have a bit, what that would mean under the very different conditions of the moment. What “movement” does it represent, if any? For all we know, this OWS may be nothing more than astroturf calling itself by that name.
This is an example of the far left joining with the right wing in acting to attack and burn down our government. The fundamental thing this movement is ignorant of is that the things the far left, and most of us want and need REQUIRE a STRONGER federal government, NOT a weaker or non-existent one. A weaker or non-existent federal government serves RIGHT WING goals, not ours.
Mindless attacks on federal government have brought us the authoritarian kleptocracy led by Trump and Musk. Now even some on the far left are joining this kleptocracy which is leaving fewer and fewer sane adults in the room to keep even the people’s basic safety net functioning.
