This is bad enough for any office holder to do but the guy you’re about to see is seriously contemplating throwing his hat in the ring for Governor of New York. And he believes that Trump is right and “seditious” comments should be “punishable by death?” This is going beyond MAGA populism, this is a member of the Republican party going out into some very dark and choppy waters. There’s a lot of truth to the old expression, “scratch a Republican, uncover a fascist.” MAGA has been said to be the id of the Republican party lo these past ten years and while that’s still not publicly admittable, I think we see the reality of that proposition right here.

In response, New York State Democratic Party Spokesperson Addison Dick released the following statement:

“Bruce Blakeman vowed to never disagree with Donald Trump in public, and today he proved that there is no limit to his promise – even when Trump is threatening lawmakers with arrest or punishment by death. Even before launching his campaign for governor, Blakeman has already shown that he will roll over for Trump and enable his extremism. New Yorkers want a governor who is a leader, not a Trump cheerleader, and Blakeman is too much of a coward to put New Yorkers first.”

Blakeman has said that he would never disagree with Trump in public and that Republicans need to “embrace him” and his deeply unpopular agenda.

Blakeman“I would not disagree in public with him… I’m on his team. The fact of the matter is I would never say anything in public that would embarrass him. I think that he’s done an amazing job.”

Blakeman: “My message to Republicans is first of all, don’t run away from President Trump, embrace him… I didn’t run away from President Trump. I said that I like his policies. I think he’s doing an outstanding job.”

Blakeman: “I support President Trump 100 percent… many people told me to run away from President Trump and I said absolutely not.”

Beware. This could be what’s headed for the New York governor’s mansion in Albany. Good for Democrats in the state that they’re on top of this. Makes Elise Stefanik look like a stellar candidate, does it not? Stefanik claims to be Ultra MAGA and we know she is a profound Trump sycophant, but would she stoop to execution of her fellow members of Congress like this guy?

Yes, there is a saner way of looking at this.

  1. I’m tempted to write that this level of treasonous, sycophantic, partisanship from a contender for Governor is unbelievable.

But, of course, nowadays, it’s not.

    Not from their side anyway.

But who would vote for this?

    • Many Nassau County voters have the same reflexive “vote Republican” attitude as those in farm belt states. Consider also the fact that a lot of Wall Street types, from execs to mail room clerks who aspire to more, call the county home, as does the MAGAt whose dual-wheeled pickup was decorated with an image of a strait jacketed Joe Biden in a jail cell. A long-time coworker who grew up here once told me, after successive GOP administrations’ fiscal chicanery resulted in County bonds attaining junk status, that he “held his nose and voted Democrat”, which gave Tom Suozzi the County Executive job. During the Obama administration, a group maintained a constant presence of a table soliciting signatures on an “Impeach Obama” petition at a nearby USPS branch.

At least around here, that’s who would vote for this. BTW, Blakeman originally claimed to be part Ukranian (his mother’s side). I haven’t heard him mention it since his idol has shown so tepid a response to Zelenskyy’s requests for assistance.
