It’s week two of Trump II, and our place in the world has plummeted to this level already. Just think about that. Would you have thought such a thing possible? As Obama so presciently predicted, “The sequel is always worse than the original,”
and no, we did not see this kind of thing taking place the first two weeks after the 2017 Inauguration.

And this is only the beginning. We are on a downhill slide now and nobody knows how bad things are going to get because so far all the experts are chiming in and saying that things are now worse than they anticipated. (To wit, I read both Joyce Vance’s and Robert Reich’s most recent newsletter and that’s their take on it.) What we do know is that these Mexican and Canadian tariffs are massively unpopular. And we know that the Republican conference is silent. They know the pain this is going to cause their constituents. But they’re too terrified of Trump to do their jobs. Here’s a hockey game where none other than the Canadians are booing the Star Spangled Banner.

This brought tears to my eyes. I don’t blame the booing. Nobody hates Donald Trump more than I do. And he is synonymous with America now, naturally, being *president.* And here’s something else that will bring tears to your eyes. This is how it used to be.

Our friends used to finish our national anthem for us but now they boo. And I wouldn’t be surprise if the Canadians start spitting on us next. This is not a time I am proud to be an American. And while we’re here, take a look at this.

Is this the “golden age” that Trump promised? Asking for a friend. Now back to Canada and what a misfire this is.

Experts are afraid to opine on the future, but the trends are evident. And this kind of thing happened in Trump I as well. Trump annoyed the Mexican government and they began doing a lot of trading with Argentina, that previously had been done with the U.S. Whether Biden rectified that, I do not know. But Trump is hell bent on driving our allies to do business with other nations and there could be a tremendous global realignment here, which will ultimately damage us.

The billionaire oligarchs around Trump don’t care. They’re here to pillage and they all straddle international markets as it is. This isn’t going to affect them, except positively, and their bottom line is all that they’re looking out for. Trump is not going to prison and he’s achieved his main goal there. So it’s golf time and let Elon Musk run the show with other non elected officials.

Meanwhile at the Los Angeles Times the billionaire owner took an op ed by an anthropologist and rewrote the headline and did some deletion of the text itself so as to give it a pro-Trump spin. This is the free press being turned into a pro-Trump propaganda machine before our very eyes.

We had right-wing propaganda for many years and now this latest descent. When I think of what Trump is doing to this country, the image that comes to mind is the end of Thelma and Louise where they drive the car off the cliff.

  1. Thanks for this Ursula. We know your anthem and we stand by its sentiments. What the hell happened, and when are those checks and balances going to check-in?

  2. 🇨🇦 The Eklund twiXt about throwing poutine at the US flag is funny, but I would cry at the waste of such a delicious resource! I don’t understand why it hasn’t caught on here just as much as tacos…every city needs a poutine truck or two!!

🤞 We’ve known since the election that we would be in hell for a long time to come. But, I kinda thought hell would be a slower roll than this…like a cartoon where the steamroller moves slowly and flattens you while you try to struggle out. I am now oddly hopeful that because Sphincter Face, et.al., hit the turbo button on that roller, the pain might be over sooner. Even the the deepest corners of MAGA are perked up to what might have escaped notice or been more easily rationalized at a slower pace. This administration is obviously testing boundaries, throwing out “norms” that sadly never really existed, and daring anyone to stop it. But, inadvertently, these lunatics are no longer successfully using the slow drip of a propaganda water torture. They have chosen waterboarding…people are drowning in it, they are choking, they can’t get a breath. At the very least, it is something much harder to ignore and it should be the start of every message from Ken Martin and the “new” DNC! 🤞

  3. I’m back to Robert Redford’s answer, as the Sundance Kid, being goaded by the losing player across the table, as he kept demanding what his secret was, since he hadn’t lost a hand, being the dealer. Redford stared at him and quietly answered: prayer.

  4. Oh, I forgot to mention, for those who can tolerate the climate, now is the time to move to our northern, soon to be enemy, ‘neighbor’, before the border closes to Americans. I’ve been to Quebec, Montreal, and Vancouver, in the summertime. Very nice places, of course, that was decades ago, before we would have to wear face shields to sit outside the bistro.

    • Scott, you’ve been to Montreal and you didn’t call me so we could get together over coffee and argue about everything under the sun?! You are in deep doo doo my friend. Ursula has my coordinates. Next time you come anywhere near Montreal you better give me a call, or else….

      • lol. I was there for the jazz festival years ago. Same to you should you find yourself in Carrboro/Chapel Hill…affectionately known as the southern part of heaven. I keep goading these nazi assholes, but so far crickets. Comrades are always needed. Of course, I live in a blue stronghold. Years ago, when money was being discussed to build the world famous Asheboro Zoo, Jesse Helms quipped: why build a new zoo…just put a fence around UNC. You’re welcome anytime.
