This is one of those situations where an explanation only makes things worse. Benjamin Netanyahu, now the Israeli opposition leader, heard about Dingbat Donald’s profane reaction to Netanyahu’s pro forma congratulations to Joe Biden upon his election. Now Netanyahu issues a statement which, while completely logical and rational, is liable to send Trump climbing the walls even further. Look out below. F-bombs away when Trump sees this.

There it is in black and white, ladies and gentlemen. The man wanted to establish cordial relations with our head of state, which is not, we repeat not, Donald Trump.

And the reason Trump is so furious is that in his *mind* he is unable to see himself as only one person who happened to be the 45th individual to hold the title of United States president, and therefore part of a lineage, an institution. Trump doesn’t think that way. He is the one and only. He is the Great One (apologies to Jackie Gleason.) He is not a *part* of anything, he is the whole enchilada. The yous and mes are the parts. He’s the center and the whole. The universe only exists to revolve around him.

There is no *institution* that he *represents* let alone for a brief time. He’s way beyond such limitations. When Trump gets involved in something, he overwhelms it, trashes it, makes it his own, runs it into the ground. That’s why the institution of the GOP is hurting. And Trump is doing his damnedest to bring down our most cherished institution, that of democracy itself.

So while Netanyahu means well, all he did was throw gasoline on the fire. We’ll see if Trump responds. Right now he’s got a whole lot bigger fish to fry than a personality conflict with some dude halfway around the world. He’s got the dogs of litigation snapping at his heels, and those babies are red-eyed and slavering. They want a piece of him.

  1. Bibi meaning well? Do be serious…he was a working prototype for Trump who ran Israel for twenty years. The only difference between him and Trump is he made the same arrogant mistakes on a bigger timetable. And there’s no gain for him siding with Trump, especially if the charges he could be facing in Israel has evidence that is Trump-linked.

  2. Israel’s relationship is with the United States, not with a particular individual. The Israeli government needs to be in communication with the US government, as part of our ongoing diplomatic relationships. It’s called normal.
