Once again we get back to Donald Trump’s basic confusion over what belongs to the United States government (classified files, anyone?) and what belongs to him personally. (And ends up in boxes in a bathroom at Mar-a-Lago.) You would think that he would have learned by now, but no, the man is unteachable. The head of the Dwight D. Eistenhower Presidential Museum, who was in government service for 30 years, apparently ticked Trump off when one of Trump’s aides went looking for a gift for King Charles, “like a sword or something.” So they asked for one of Eisenhower’s swords and were amazed that the answer was “no.”
The affair of the sword is the latest tussle between Mr. Trump and those who run the nation’s nonpartisan cultural and historical institutions, a number of whom he has fired or sought to bring to heel, starting with the National Archives. In early February, Mr. Trump, who had tangled with the archives over his reluctance to return classified documents after leaving office in 2021, abruptly fired the archivist of the United States, Colleen Shogan.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio was named acting archivist. Jim Byron, the chief executive of the Richard Nixon Foundation, a private group connected with the Nixon presidential library in California, was named senior adviser, charged with managing the archives “on a day-to-day basis” until a permanent archivist could be appointed.
The request for a gift for King Charles came from a State Department liaison who used the email address “giftgirl2025” and initially told the museum that they were looking for “like a sword or something,” according to a person familiar with the discussions.
As it happens, shortly before the Trump administration’s failed efforts to secure a sword from the Eisenhower library, two other Eisenhower swords went on view in a temporary display at the Nixon library. According to a news release, they are on loan from Julie Nixon Eisenhower, a daughter of President Nixon, who married the grandson of President Eisenhower.
Wow, Donald couldn’t get the swords that belonged to the government or that belonged to Julie Nixon Eisenhower. Bummer. Maybe Mrs. Eisenhower doesn’t like Trump anymore than the rest of us do, ya spose? Maybe she knows that both Nixon and Eisenhower, but particularly Eisenhower, would be aghast if they were alive and could see who and what Trump is.
It’s just one more instance of play ball with Trump or face the unemployment line. Trump has zero interest in what belongs to whom or why. He simply wants his childish impulse of the moment to be indulged and when explained why that can’t be, he can’t hear it. And he lashes out unfairly — and most likely, illegally. But what do you expect when you elect a convicted felon to the White House?
Once again, the world points and laughs at America. I don’t blame them. I totally get it.

The LAW decides who is a ‘convicted felon’. Given the laws are made by the powerful and rich to support THEIR agenda, many people are criminalized when they shouldn’t be. One example are the drug laws put into place by a traitorous criminal president,(nixon), to quell protests during the Vietnam war, civil rights, and the rise of the women’s movement. Cannabis has been used as a political tool since 1970 and hundreds of thousands are arrested EACH YEAR. Trump is truly a criminal who killed, through his 30,000+ lies, over a million citizens by hiding and lying about Covid. It
He also indirectly killed over 25,000 people between 18 and 29. Whenever the word ‘felon’ is tossed around, it automatically legitimizes the LAW, and assumes the one labeled is dangerous. That’s a cultural lie. It is the reason white men in suits pass the rules that criminalize the innocent,(ICE anyone?), while they WALK on horrendous actions. Oh…and in a society that has allowed this bag of pus the presidency TWICE…well who are the criminals? Felons can’t vote in most states. I guess it was all you ‘innocent’ people with ‘clean’ records that has children’s blood on your lily white hands. But at least you’re not a ‘felon’. Once again it’s not the label that makes him evil…and the lack of a label doesn’t make anyone good. In a country willingly run by a nazi, well…let’s see who gets criminalized. Remember EVERYTHING Hitler did to the 11 million souls exterminated in WW2 WAS LEGAL. So much for my respect for the ‘LAW’ and the labels they apply. Oh…and I’m an example. Nothing stranger than being railroaded into the penitentiary, only to be told months later by the Parole board, and I quote: “you shouldn’t have even been arrested”. Ah America…where the innocent go to jail and get labeled a felon…while the truly guilty gets 78 million votes from law abiding citizens. What a sick phucking joke we are. No wonder the bill is due.
I’d be laughing too, Ursula, if I wasn’t crying for all that we’ve lost.
