It would seem as though some of us have underestimated Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Now, without a doubt, she was and surely remains far too conservative to ever work with her hand in hand on liberal fiscal policy and legislation. Equally true, it is likely (though not at all guaranteed) that she remains unreachable for progressive changes supporting people of color, LGBTQ Americans, immigrants, and the disabled. She is also still weird, worried about controlling weather and such. But it sure looks as though she has grown in her time in Congress, and for that, one should be both thankful and intrigued.

No doubt, the “kool kidz” will sit back, ever cynical, and talk about her MAGA entrance and the fact that she can never be trusted, and that she’s still the same insufferable MTG who should be banished to the northwestern reaches of Georgia from whence she came. That’s easy. Fine. But it’s not particularly satisfying to forever cement people as locked into a “type,” beneath redemption. Life should be about growth, education, experience, and maturation. People do change. Some can see it playing out in real time.

After all, she is against her party in pulling the ACA subsidies, saying it would brutalize her constituents. Additionally, she isn’t just pulling away from the party line on Epstein and the ACA subsidies; she is calling out the MAGA manosphere. And on that one, it is easy to get fully behind her as she launched a brutal attack today on one of MAGA’s biggest X-account, Mr. Pizzagate himself, Mike Cernovich:

“Oh I haven’t suffered enough for you while you post all day behind a screen? Do I have to stay until I’m assassinated like our friend Charlie Kirk. Will that be good enough for you then? Shit posting on the internet all day isn’t fighting. Get off YOUR ass and run for Congress. I fought harder than anyone in the real arena, not social media. Put down your little pebbles and put your money where your mouth is.”

And she followed that up with:

Typical of Republican men telling a woman to “shut up get back in the kitchen and fix me something to eat.” F*ck you in the sweetest most southern drawl I can enunciate.

I have been trying tell all you “men” that our kitchen pantry is empty with spider webs, our house has been ransacked, the windows and doors are broken and busted, and the greedy rich bastards have twisted your minds into a sick state that you all continue in the two party toxic political system that acts like college football playoffs yet is burying you and your children and their children and their children in a pine box in a shallow grave.

Get off your ass and fix your own damn food and clean up the kitchen when you’re done.

If she sounds like a feminist – and she does – then it seems as though it is best to support her, at least in this limited area, as she takes on the powerful MAGA-men who have done so much to ruin this country. She is standing up to that element of the nation that is acting like the worst college frat whiteboys, giggling over what they can now “get away with,” and that includes sh*t-talking to women.

Yes, yes, yes, she is crazy in many ways, and she did a lot to ride Trump’s wagon to glory right up until he didn’t support her for a run for the Senate in GA. But it most certainly would have been easier, even after the snub, to stay in MAGA’s good graces, join sisters Nancy Mace and Lauren Boebert in continued Trump worship. But she didn’t. And not only is she getting out, but she is also getting out as a moderate, anti-MAGA-men, left of Trump, and even Trump-independent, and that is something, too.

It is very easy to remain cynical and cool, forever banishing, “I won’t be fooled,” all that. But it is far more satisfying to nod, just nod, “Good job.” It takes guts, especially for a woman, to cross MAGA right now. Good for her.

I hope she stays in the arena and makes noise. I truly do believe that she’s learned something in her period in Congress and that it has changed her. I think she’s grown politically, sees the greys amidst all the black and white, and is someone who might contribute positively in the years to come.

Yes, I do think she’s trying to position herself as moderate and sensible enough to win the Senate or governorship. Still, I don’t see much wrong with that, either. We certainly see men do it all the time. I wouldn’t vote for her. But I hope she continues down this road.

  1. The ‘problem’ for her is that logical, rational thinking on why things are, and how things came to be, when looking at fairness for everyone, inevitably, invariably, and always, leads into that person having a progressive outlook.

And of course this brings in the corollary…

‘The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.’

As elucidated so clearly by the great thinker and economist, John Kenneth Galbraith.

Once you stop being selfish, and follow the logical moral teachings of all the great religions, including Christianity, you end up on the left, along with us, and the rest of reality.

  2. Most excellent words Jason and Concinnity.

Just a thought: Is this perhaps a case for MTG concurrently having her cake and eating it too.

    • Her “greedy rich bastards” and “two party toxic political system” references sound nothing like Republican rhetoric, much less MAGA. Confusing.

  3. When I saw and heard her harassing the survivors of the Parkland school massacre, I swore she was ultimate evil and was way past all redemption, religious or otherwise. I’ve not changed that opinion, but I wonder if, just maybe, the women who are victims of the Epstein/Maxwell horror show got through to MTG. Maybe they touched a deeply hidden morsel of humanity somewhere within her soul. I suppose anything’s possible.
