Marjorie Taylor Greene didn’t talk about space lasers in her Tuesday morning riff on Twitter, but give her time, the day is young. Greene’s latest comment has been reported to Twitter, in the hopes that by being openly racist and furthering coronavirus disinformation, both against the rules, Jack Dorsey might do something to muzzle her. It seems to be a cinch that Kevin McCarthy won’t. He still hasn’t responded to her crazy town salvo from last week. Maybe he’s passed out somewhere from the shock of it all. Frankly, we wouldn’t blame him, this is simply incredible coming from a member of congress.

I put that response first because it pretty much codifies the reaction Greene is drawing this morning. First of all, it’s difficult to decide if this tweet is the more loathsome for its ignorance or for its callousness. Greene speaks of survivability of 99%. So that means she’s okay with 1% of the United States population dying? Which would be 3.3 million people? Because death is preferable to the “discrimination” of mask wearing or carrying a card showing you’ve been vaccinated? There are no words to describe this level of stupid. If she was a kid in middle school coming up with this nonsense, she would be admonished to study and to know something before she opens her mouth again on the subject. In a 46-year-old woman, a member of congress no less, this is unspeakable.

And what is up with Kevin McCarthy? Is he going to continue to hide out from this?

The political tom toms are going to be beating out a message, “Where Is Kevin, Where Is Kevin?” That’s what you’re going to hear non stop and it’s up to McCarthy how long that refrain lasts. This was crazy last week and at the rate Greene is going, who knows how much crazier still it will get.

One thing I will say Greene accomplished that I didn’t think was possible: she has made Michelle Bachmann look tame by comparison. And back in 2015-16, Bachmann’s image was regularly photoshopped wearing a strait jacket. In Greene’s case, an entire mental hospital, better yet a chain of them, may have to be named after her.

Wake up, Kevin. This woman doesn’t belong in congress or in your conference, she belongs on a locked down ward.

Here are a few comments from Bess Levin at Vanity Fair on Space Laser Marjorie calling Nancy Pelosi mentally ill:

Just as an aside, let’s take a moment to appreciate Marjorie Taylor Greene describing someone elseas mentally ill. Moving on, as a secondary rule to not equating genocide with anything other than actual genocide, it should probably be written down somewhere, like on a sticky note in Greene’s office, that at no time should one ever suggest that requiring people to wear masks—for their and others’ safety!—is the same as sending them to concentration camps and gassing them alive. Is it completely insane that anyone needs to be reminded of that? Yes! Is Greene crazier than a shithouse mouse? Also yes!

Obviously those comments received widespread backlash, but rather than pause, reflect, and maybe even apologize for them—anathema to a professional troll like Greene—the congresswoman doubled down. “I stand by all of my statements; I said nothing wrong,” she told CNN affiliate KPNX. She added: “I think any rational Jewish person didn’t like what happened in Nazi Germany, and any rational Jewish person doesn’t like what’s happening with overbearing mask mandates and overbearing vaccine policies.” Greene, of course, does not speak for Jews, because if she did she might know that saying they “didn’t like what happened in Nazi Germany,” as if talking about not liking how one’s burger was cooked, is a very strange way to describe Jewish people’s feeling about the Holocaust, among other things.

Greene’s remarks were unsurprisingly condemned by numerous lawmakers, with Michigan rep. Peter Meijer telling CNN’s Dana Bash, “First off, any comparisons to the Holocaust, it’s beyond reprehensible. This is—I don’t even have words to describe how disappointing it is to see this hyperbolic speech that, frankly, amps up and plays into a lot of the anti-Semitism that we’ve been seeing in our society today. Vicious attacks on the streets of New York and in Los Angeles,” Meijer said. Rep. Liz Cheney called the comments “evil lunacy.” Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who has previously spoken out against Greene, tweeted, “Absolute sickness,” alongside a clip of her statement. On the Democratic side, Rep. Jim McGovern called for Greene to resign and demanded that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy respond, though McCarthy, who is happy to allow the Greenes and Trumps of the world to take over his party, does not appear to have gotten around to it yet.

Sit back and watch. At the rate she’s going, Greene will conflate Jesus dying on the cross with somebody getting a paper cut from opening a mail-in ballot, thereby giving a basis for all mail-in ballots to be discontinued.

It’s not just Greene who is sick. Let’s face it, if there was any kind of leadership in the GOP, this would have been nipped in the bud long ago.

  1. Tony Posnanski’s reaction is the absolute best. My personal reaction to her first statement was feeling nauseous. I have been refraining from commenting, in an effort to no engage in demeaning or degrading speech. In the end, I whole-heartedly agree with Tony.

  2. Either she is admitting she is a Nazi or showing sympathy for the Nazis. Also, Republicans will not discipline her. Kevin McCoward is too afraid.

  3. Does Greene have any children (poor unfortunates, if so)? I only ask because most public schools require PROOF of vaccinations for children (for MANY virally-transmitted diseases) before they’re allowed to attend. Even students who transfer schools were generally required to maintain some proof of vaccinations before they could start.

I’m an army brat; dad served for most of a decade (kind of a long story) before I was born and served more than a decade after my birth and I still remember seeing my vaccination record many MANY years ago (not sure what happened to it but I do remember it looking similar to a passport). I don’t know if civilian kids had the same kind of thing but I do know that the laws in pretty much every state still require proof of vaccinations when a kid starts a new elementary school (some even require proof to begin preschool institutions) with exceptions only being allowed for religious reasons (or, if the child may have a potential allergy to the vaccination).

  4. Another thought: Maybe Greene needs to lay off the peroxide already. It’s obvious that the stuff has seeped into, and then rotted, what little bit of a brain she had.

    • Of course, there is no evidence she had ANY mind particulates to start with … I agree, there is absolutely NO way her trash talk should be tolerated at ANY level …

The totally sad and incredibly horrible story of the abject killing and torment suffered by those 6 million Jews, was first exposed to me as a junior high student … my teacher happened to be one of the walk-in liberator troops of the US at a main concentration camp … it was his desire to let us, as young upstarts know what actually happened and how it affected him for the rest of his life …

He brought a homemade fold-out display of his Black and White photos he took then and developed after returning home …

I remember, like it was yesterday, my mind trying to wrap itself around these visions of un-posed, pure evil suffering of so many bodies, piled up on wagons, lined up for the short trip out to the huge burning pit from the back doors of the poison showers, where they were crowded in and suffocated by the poison cyanide gas … fire hose crews were used to flush out the chambers after the deaths …

There were photos of the ovens where freshly arrived Jews were held by their ears long enough for a pistol shot to their head, then fed into the roaring flames with hooks on poles …

I was overwhelmed by all this real horror I was seeing … but our teacher was a kind man and let us see the truth of those impossible to explain days he was there … days that were NEVER in any textbooks or lectures I experienced all through the upper grades, he answered any questions with as much composure as he could muster, but at times he would choke up some and excuse himself …

This reminds me of the overlooked horror of the treatment of native Americans when the white people came to claim their land for gold, lumber and other lands for farming … NEVER in text books or assembly’s probably on the same shelves with the whole slaver story, which was hidden from casual discovery …
BLACK LIVES DO MATTER, we ALL do, this cretin saying her ideas of equating simple shit to the suffering of the Jews is so stupid and infantile she needs to go NOW!!
