Not exactly a surprising outcome of this Gallup poll as to America’s feelings about the current Supreme Court – given that 1/3 of it’s membership was appointed by a twice impeached shitheel with a nasty habit of stealing National Security documents, and each of whom landed their appointments under dubious circumstances with the approval of a Senate Majority that would be turned out in upcoming elections.

Add to that the fact that three of the current Justices, Clarence Thomas, Amy Coney Barrett, and Chief Justice John Roberts either do not disclose the source of their spouses income, as is the case of Thomas and Barrett, or do not reveal what clients are shoveling money into that source so oversight can ascertain whether they might have business before the court, as is the case of Roberts, and one can clearly see how trust issues may arise.

Still, their precipitous and abrupt fall from a positive approval rating, most of it occurring in the last two years, is rather startling and, in my opinion, does indeed call into question their legitimacy.

Common Dreams

“More than half of adults in the United States say they lack trust in the federal government’s judicial branch and nearly three-fifths disapprove of the way the U.S. Supreme Court is doing its job, according to survey results released Thursday, as the negative ramifications of opinions issued this summer by the high court’s reactionary majority continue to reverberate.

Just 47% of U.S. adults have “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of trust in the federal judiciary, Gallup found. “This represents a 20-percentage-point drop from two years ago, including seven points since last year,” and is six points lower than the previous record low of 53%, the polling firm noted. “The judicial branch’s current tarnished image contrasts with trust levels exceeding two-thirds in most years in Gallup’s trend that began in 1972.”

In addition to record low trust in the federal judiciary, the new poll, which was conducted September 1-16, found that a record high percentage of U.S. adults (58%) say they disapprove of how the Supreme Court is handling its job. A record-tying low (40%) say they approve.”

Nearly two thirds of Americans, then, do not approve how thic Court is conducting their business.

Is it necessary that the Supreme Court retain the approval of the American people to continue to vomit up bad decisions?

Well, that is demonstrably not the case, as this conservative majority Court is set to begin a new term during which they will most likely continue to chip away at our rights, including the most sacred one our right to have our votes being the deciding factor in the election of The President of The United States.

But a Court that does not have the confidence of most of America should not be engaged in making rulings that will fundamentally change that nation’s character.

No matter how Judges Alito and Roberts May “feel” about it.

  1. Good. Let’s fix the broken institution. If we cannot restructure it then let us put in laws to make the federal court system including the s.c. accountable, above board, and scrupulously fair and by that I mean full disclosure of all investments (and blind trusts would be even better) and recusals when former employers, family members up to and including spouses, etc. are even tangentially connected to a case. Oh, and let’s not forget about that shadow docket bull-shit: that needs to be shit canned NOW.

Nobody trusts the s.c. due to asinine decisions true but they are making other decisions while being financially, politically, religiously, etc. involved in the cases. If not they themselves then people close to them or former employers and such. At least five of the “justices”, political hacks really, are extraordinarily corrupt and thomas is at the top of that list. Three of the justices, thomas, gorsuch, and beer bong have outright lied to obtain their seats on the court and impeachment should be the first order of business.

Changes can and need to be made. Too often I hear how expanding the court makes it too unwieldy, etc. If however we keep the justices accountable and force them to recuse when there are connections between them and the people/businesses/etc. in the cases, the number will shrink for many and maybe even most cases. The s.c. is no longer a respected branch of government and this is a bad thing. The highest court in the land being also the least respected branch of government will lead to people, states, etc. ignoring the rulings. That will lead to anarchy or worse–authoritarianism.

  2. Well, they’ve slaughtered “separation of church and state”, and then proceeded to treat women like “baby-factory-less-than-equal-citizen”, for starters. They should be removed and jailed for violating the U.S. Constitution.

Please inform every damned woman you know that you would force them to bear the child of their rapist or die because they are pregnant.
Unlike you, you ignorant arsewipe, I have held in my arms a sobbing 12 year-old raped by a neighbor (who was, married to a pregnant 16year old). And an 11year old incest victim who still.had her hymen only because her begins was too small.for her father to penetrate it comfortably. I have escorted victims to Planned Parenthood to get STI tests and Plan B. They had to.walk past screeching hordes of people like you. It took every ounce of self control.I had not to spit on them.

Get back on your high horse and ride out of town, yoh disgusting piece of shit.

  3. Fuck those entitled corrupt bastards put there by the corporate rich white men, criminals themselves. Chisel that goddamn EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER THE LAW off the goddamn building. It’s a LIE. Hard to respect countries that etch into granite the opposite philosophy onto the building where corruption & greed are the mainstays, and perjury is the ticket to a lifetime of unbridled power.

  4. The Scotus makes me sick now, since Ruth has died. They lied out their rears to get on there, the two last republicans, anyway. They should be impeached just for that, and Thomas needs impeached for not recusing himself. And how dare his wife interject herself into politics for orange jesus, & then say they don’t discuss it…..uh…yeah, right. That’s BS & they all know it. I have no respect left for the scotus and neither does anyone i know. They’ve made a mockery of it.
