Art imitates life. Sometimes life imitates art. And then there are circumstances where life imitates art imitating life. The only question left, is whether next week, will Kate McKinnon imitate Laura Ingraham imitating her, imitating her to begin with? Whut? I know, it’s confusing. This is life on the front lines of the culture war, circa 2022.

Here’s where things stand. Kate McKinnon did a cold open on SNL last Saturday night, imitating that mistress of the macabre, no not Vampira, we speak of Laura Ingraham. Here’s what that looked like, if you missed it.

Ingraham got pissed. Here’s what that looked like.

Now this is not Ingraham’s first foray into the world of comedy. Did you see this travesty? Ingraham thought it was a real scream, apparently. We figured Fox News was a bubble but you have to be living in an adamantine echo chamber, sunk in a mineshaft descending to Dr. Strangelove depths to believe that this is comical.

Laura, we don’t know how to put it to you, but you stink. Comedy is not your thing.

Then, as if it couldn’t get any more ridiculous, it did. Mike Huckabee chimed in. Daily Beast:

Saturday Night Live could be funny, but it isn’t, in part because they don’t seem to have any sense of self awareness that there is another side of the political aisle where the real comedy is going on right now,” Huckabee said. It is, according to Huckabee, people like Ingraham who are proving that conservatives have a sense of humor.

But based on the online response to the segment, she may have to try a little harder. One Twitter user remarked, “Tell me an SNL sketch struck a nerve without telling me an SNL sketch struck a nerve.” Another wrote, “It should come as no surprise that @IngrahamAngle isn’t even funny when doing an impression of an actually funny person like Kate McKinnon.”

I think Ingraham seriously does want to be loved as some kind of a comedian. I honestly believe that she thinks her mean spirited barbs are comical and not the classless, clueless evil that they are. My exhibit “A” for this proposition is when she mocked the Capitol policemen who responded to January 6 as crisis actors and she even mocked a tearful Adam Kinzinger.

Ingraham lacks the taste and judgement to know what is funny and what  crosses the line into cruelty and vulgarity and that’s precisely why she has the job she has on Fox News. That is her main job qualification, the lack of antennae that normal people have.  The Ingraham Angle is a demented one. Everybody knows that but maybe she doesn’t. Ironically, Mike Huckabee spoke of self awareness and look at who he was talking to.

Another aspect to comedy is that it doesn’t punch down. Again, I cite the example of the phony awards show starring the Capitol police. That was disgusting.

Here’s a link to the clip I’m taking about, via Mediaite. You watch it and tell me if it isn’t Ingraham at her most vile. But again, she has a worldview where this is fair game and that is why she has the job she has on Fox News. Say what you will about Rupert Murdoch, he knows how to pick them. Ingraham is a sociopath and that level of “humor” is always going to have a small following. Although, truthfully, as mean spirited and out of it as we are getting as a country, there may be more of a following for her level of trash than there used to be.

Let’s see if she goes on SNL and does an impersonation of Nancy Pelosi. This could get very comical indeed.

  1. Right-wingers are too mean-spirited to be funny. Like with tRump, what they think is funny is putting people down, insulting the little guy. That’s not funny. The funniest people are intelligent and aren’t afraid to poke fun at themselves, not something we’ll see from these asshats.

  2. It was reported that nazis threw infants in the air to shoot just for sport. Believable. Especially knowing they threw live children into the furnaces when the gas ran out. There is no basement in Hell. Darkness without end. Some demons even have TV shows.

” That’s too bad. He believes in you.”
