This normally doesn’t happen. Blowing a basic deadline like this is grossly incompetent so it has to be assumed that something else is going on instead. The something else could be that he’s working on a plea deal and that that is so consuming that he can’t deal with a civil case. Or, he’s lost his lawyer and can’t hire a new one. That could be because he doesn’t have the money or nobody wants to represent him. The only thing that is not speculative at this point is that he has until July 9 to fix this or Stormy Daniels wins by default.
Instead of trying to get a gag order issued so I cannot speak the truth to the public, Mr. Cohen and his lawyer Brent Blakely should be focused on simple court deadlines. They blew the deadline to respond to our complaint. As a result, the court just issued this order. #Basta pic.twitter.com/ZYzNyh2RRd

There are only two possibilities: One, is that Cohen and his lawyer are simply asleep at the switch and so are all the staffers because calendaring a responsive pleading is very basic stuff. That’s unlikely. Two, is that Cohen is putting together a plea deal, as we have all suspected. Now the plea deal won’t fix the civil case, so apparently he just doesn’t care. He now has a brief extension of time, until July 9, to do something. If he doesn’t then Michael Avenatti can take a default judgment and Stormy Daniels wins. Whether Cohen can pay the judgment then becomes another issue for another day.
Either way, by July 9 we will know a lot more of what’s going on in this case than we know now. That’s the only thing that is for sure.
