MI To Hold 2 Conventions Because 2 People Claim To Be Party Boss

Is there a King Solomon in the house? Or the House? Because we seriously need that level of wisdom to settle this score. There is a blazing controversy right now over who is the Chair of the Michigan State GOP. Two people claim that title, Kristina Karamo and Pete Hoekstra. Neither one of them is willing to give up the title and so they’ve resolved to settle the dispute by holding two conventions in March. Now I would suggest that King Solomon could offer to cut the Republican party in two but Donald Trump already did that and that’s why this mess exists in the first place.

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Ousted Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Kristina Karamo spoke out after the state GOP released a statement last week recognizing Pete Hoekstra as the new Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.

Karamo said once again that she is the real chairperson, and the leadership debate is hurting the party.

Confusion within the Michigan Republican Party continues, and with early voting for the state’s Republican and Democratic primary elections already starting, it could pose even more concerns for the party.

Former Chairwoman Kristina Karamo released a video on Facebook last week speaking out against the party’s decision to oust her.

“Ronna McDaniel admitted to me I’m still legally chair of the Republican party, and the RNC has no authority to override the precinct delegates or the state central committee.”

Karamo was ousted after committee members voted to remove her as chair on Jan. 6. A week later, those results were made official when Pete Hoekstra was ratified as chair.

“I mean, there’s people that are trying to manufacture one, but when you’ve got the president endorsement, when you’ve been ratified by the RNC, the Congressional Delegation has recognized this, and the state committee elected me,” Hoekstra said.

And so they will hold dueling conventions on March 2. By the way, Trump endorsed Hoekstra for the chair, although he was a big fan of Karamo’s as well. Meanwhile, the Chairs of various counties in Michigan are deciding whose delegates to seat. And no, I don’t know if this is going to get to John Eastman-level crazy, where there will be real delegates and pretend delegates. Nobody seems to know where this one is going, although Oakland County Republican Party Chair Vance Patrick said that “the RNC has already recognized that Hoekstra is the sitting chair, which makes it very likely, if not certain, that they would seat his delegates.” So this is the state of play, with “his” delegates and “her” delegates, and confusion reigns.

What’s that you say? Why isn’t something off the walls like this making major headlines? You’re not the only one wondering.

That is about as logical an assessment of this as you’re going to find. The Republican party is out of control. This is not normal.

As the Bible has pointed out to us, and it’s been around a whole lot longer than the GOP, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” The GOP has been divided against itself for some time now and it is in the process of collapsing. The GOP was a fragmented house, filled with extremist fringe groups before, but MAGA is the group of termites that came in and ate the foundation.

And Donald Trump is the snake. But then the GOP knew he was a snake when they took him in, right? Isn’t that how the poem goes?

  1. It’s entertaining to watch and the division will be helpful to MI Democrats as the year moves along. All that Party infighting will affect their GOTV and ability to challenge results they don’t like after the election. That costs both money and perhaps even more importantly who gets to speak for the ‘we didn’t REALLY” lose GOPers when they go to court.

However, the practical effect of two conventions is negligible. Trump’s going to get ALL of the state’s delegates come convention time and that’s all he cares about. Think of it as watching old-school Championship Wrestling back in the 1960s on black and white TV. You could tell who was rigged to win a given bout, but it was still sometimes fun to watch if only because it was so cheesy. At least the performers now are far better athletes and in superb condition. THOSE guys from long ago? Not so much which was part of the charm along with their ridiculous playacting. But the outcome was determined ahead of time and two conventions or not the outcome of who will get Michigan’s delegates at the GOP convention this summer is already determined too.

  2. Texas GOP is split into a few different parts and it is getting ugly. the Paxton wing is going after the cornyn wing and the TV primary ads are over the top. I don’t see how they are going to work together after this is over.

    • I know! Why don’t they challenge the federal government for control of the U.S. — I mean Republic of Texas — border?

And since lots of fentanyl is coming in over the Canadian border, and fentanyl’s a big problem in New Hampshire, why shouldn’t Governor Sununu send 15 members of the New Hampshire National Guard down to the Texas border to help Abbott with his publicity stunt to stop the illegal migrants bringing in fentanyl? We know it’s a publicity stunt because “at the U.S.-Mexico border, far more fentanyl is seized at legal ports of entry than on illegal crossing routes between the ports.” https://www.npr.org/2023/08/09/1191638114/fentanyl-smuggling-migrants-mexico-border-drugs

  3. Isn’t that cute! They can get matching T-shirts and MAGA hats marked his and hers. Maybe the mess can be decided who wins by going best two out of three in rock, paper, scissors. Or a three legged race. Or a game of field hockey. Or a golf tournament. That makes, about as much sense as anything in the GOP these, days.
