I’m sorry, but I’m starting to see what I can only call the start of a double standard here. Although Attorney General Merrick Garland has repeatedly said in public that the DOJ is investigating all activities in regard to the Capitol riot, as well as the prologue, and they will follow the evidence where it leads, and prosecute appropriately, it hasn’t stopped talking heads and analysts like Elie Mystal from dumping shit all over Garland’s head for not holding a public inquisition of the Trump cabal.

Which is just bone stupid. Because the FBI/DOJ have a standing rule, active criminal investigations are conducted in house and in private. Mainly because the law provides that every defendant is entitled to a fair hearing in court. But if the DOJ throws evidence all over the place in the media, and then decides not to prosecute, the subject has no opportunity to defend himself. Anybody remember James Comey, and Hillary Clinton, and her private server from 2016? A total cluster fuck that may have cost Clinton the White House. So, my tolerance level for the Mystals out there is rather limited. I prefer fair and impartial justice.

But now it turns out that Mr. Mystal might have to eat a little crow. Since day one, the DOJ and FBI have had an open criminal investigation into the events at the Capitol on 1/6. You know, the one that has garnered more than 700 arrests and indictments, enough to clog the judicial system for a year?

But now MSNBC is reporting that the DOJ has expanded it’s investigation from January 6th and into the events leading up to the Capitol riot! And they have already subpoenaed several Trump administration insiders to appear in front of the same grand jury panel that is hearing the 1/6 cases.

If this is true, it is a major escalation.  Because while the House committee has to refer a miscreant to the DOJ for contempt of congress, the DOJ and the FBI can send miscreants directly to jail for contempt, Do not pass go, do not collect $200. And the reporting is that several close Trump insiders in the administration have already been subpoenaed to the grand jury.

If this reporting is correct, it is what the 1/6 committee has been begging for. Because it gives them an extra dudgel to use with resistant witnesses. Talk to us, or we can turn this shit over the the DOJ, and you can deal with a subpoena that carries jail time with non compliance. And to me it means that Garland is holding good to his word. He is following the evidence, and will prosecute whomever is implicated, with no fear or favor. Don’t touch that dial.

  1. Time will tell. Too early to say. Let’s hope he is a man of his word. Nixon’s buddies all went to jail. Meadows criminal contempt was three months ago or so. He clearly also committed voter fraud here in NC claiming a residence he never resided in & did mail in voting. You may be correct, however, until it’s proven that the powerful will be held accountable, it remains speculation.

  2. I will be a believer in justice, when one of the big shooters in politics goes to jail for their participation in 01/06.
