You may recall Mary Trump saying a while back that her Uncle Donald would not run again in 2024 because he was humiliated in 2020 by the loss and he wouldn’t put himself in that position again. She says that’s all changed now because there are enough voter suppression bills out there that if Donald Trump becomes convinced that the election is “rigged” to use his favorite word, then he will run. Insider
Mary Trump told Insider that her uncle’s recent behavior is indicative of someone trying to rehabilitate their reputation in time for a presidential race. “He’s still spreading his ‘Big Lie,'” she said. This refers to a phrase used to describe Republican misinformation about the 2020 election.
“He’s also now spreading the second big lie,” she continued. “This is that the insurrection of January 6 wasn’t a big deal.”
The “most troubling” sign that her uncle intends to run for president, Mary Trump continued, is that there are “hundreds of voter suppression bills” winding their way through state legislatures.
According to the Brennan Center for Justice, as of June 21, 2021, 17 states have enacted 28 new laws that restrict access to the vote. At least 61 bills with restrictive voting provisions are now moving through 18 state legislatures, the public policy institute’s research said.
“If the Republicans in any given state can make it harder or impossible for certain kinds of people to vote, like people of color or college students, then Donald might realize that if he ran again, he couldn’t lose because the system would have been rigged to favor him,” Mary Trump said.
She added that her uncle is unlikely to participate in a race he doesn’t think he’d be able to win. “He’s a coward and he’ll never engage in a fair fight,” she said. “He’ll only engage if he’s convinced that through cheating, lying, and stealing that he can win.”
Mary Trump says the only thing that may preclude Donald running is the legal entanglements he’s currently in, plus he’s not in the greatest health. She said that the New York criminal investigation could actually incentivize him to run, however. That makes sense because Trump loves it when he can play victim and martyr.
Maybe the country will be saved by Trump’s own past coming back to haunt him at the right time. As the days go by more legal entanglements do appear.
He’s really in need of keepers and a nice suite somewhere that all the doors are locked from outside.
If he runs for 2024, he’ll have to disown the entire Big Lie, because if he won in 2020, he isn’t eligible to run again (22nd Amendment: you can only win twice).
As far as disowning the big lie, I don’t expect that to happen. He doesn’t do logic unless it suits his purposes. I think he wants to run again, so he can’t be charged as a sitting president. Not that I expect he would get elected, I just think that’s his thinking.
You’re using logic in a dispute with people that have no concept of it.
2024 is a long way out there, plenty of time for the courts to find him red-handed guilty of crimes against US, the people, destroy any value left in any of his poorly maintained properties … The Trump label left in a tattered heap of graffiti-covered scrap worth not even the salvage man to pick up …
