File this under shocking but not surprising. Eric Trump referred to his cousin Mary once as “disturbed” and I suspect that’s because she’s the only one in that cockeyed family that ever bothered to study psychology or question the dynamics of the family. Dr. Trump spoke to the Daily Beast recently and her answer to the question of why Uncle Donald renamed the Kennedy Center the Trump-Kennedy Center is both simple and sad: the man wants to be loved and he thinks if everything has his name on it, that he will be.

“I’m trying to contain my contempt,” Trump, 60, told host Joanna Coles about Trump’s action, which ignores the role Congress must play in officially changing the name of the building.

“He wants to turn every public space in America into some version of WWE or Ultimate Fighting, and it is just grotesque that he thinks that somehow this legitimizes him or gives him the same stature and standing as somebody like President Kennedy. But that’s partially why he’s doing it,” she explained.

This would also explain his obsession with the Nobel Peace Prize. If he could only land that, then he would have the same stature as all the other holders. He would share their legitimacy. Let’s hope that the Prize doesn’t de-legitimize itself by allowing it to slip into Trump’s hands.

Renaming the Kennedy Center and the U.S. Institute of Peace, as well as building a massive ballroom where the East Wing once stood and drawing up plans for an “Arc de Trump” across from the Lincoln Memorial, Mary Trump said, is “never going to be enough—ever.” The reason? The president’s upbringing.

“He is constantly trying to fill a void that cannot be filled, and the reason is actually pretty simple: even though Donald was the preferred child of my grandfather—and by preferred I mean most useful to him, the most useful in advancing his own agenda—my grandfather and my grandmother rendered Donald unlovable,“ Mary said. ”The only thing, the thing he most desperately wants in his life, is to be loved. He never has been sufficiently. He never will be. That is an impossible thing for him to achieve.”

All the branding that Trump has done throughout his adult life, from real estate to Bibles, “is all in service to filling a black hole that is unfillable.”

“Because his needs will never be met, and he can never grapple with them in a real way because he is just a terrified little boy who cannot face the truth about himself, all of us are suffering,” she claimed.

Let’s just hope that the terrified little boy doesn’t decide to blow up the world one day, since he does have that power; although maybe somebody in his White House has had enough sense to defuse the red button or at least reroute it to where it would ring an alarm somewhere where some adult could made a decision about the situation.

The White House was asked for comment about Mary Trump’s assessment of her uncle’s motivation and the reply the Daily Beast got was: “Mary Trump is a stone-old loser who doesn’t have a clue about anything.” That sounds like something Steven Cheung would say. The fact remains that Mary Trump is a clinical psychologist and she did grow up in the Trump family so that background gives her a great many clues about many things, particularly her uncle. I think the Trump White House hates Mary in particular because her arrows zing particularly close to uncomfortable truthes.
