Get really used to having non-issues thrown out like old frozen pizza as the Right Wing MAGAs frantically try to get past the Trump-Epstein issue. We have already seen nods toward Hillary’s server, Biden’s auto-pen, and now we’re up against the “Obama Conspiracy,” the one in which he ingloriously failed to overturn an election and politely stood on the Capitol steps, smiling, as Donald Trump was inaugurated as president in 2017. Forgive all of us if we can’t quite know what it was that Obama did wrong, something about Russia, Russia, Russia, the dyslexic version. If Obama did something wrong, he didn’t do it wrong enough given that Trump was sworn in and the Senate found, well, that Russia Russia Russia interfered with our election. (And Obama failed to prevent it sufficiently, but we all make mistakes).
Now rancid right-winger Matt Walsh, the self-avowed Christian Nationalist – who really embarrasses us Christians, but that’s another column – is calling on Tulsi Gabbard to arrest Donald Trump for raping adolescent… No, wait, he is calling on Gabbard to arrest Obama, even though Gabbard, as Director of National Intelligence, can’t arrest anyone, and even though Obama never committed a crime, at least – not one that anyone can name, and that includes Matt Walsh, or be fired. From Matt Walsh’s podcast as presented in Joe My God:
“Right now President Trump is, you know, making a bunch of posts on Truth Social depicting Obama officials in orange jumpsuits. Tulsa Gabbard is doing hits on Fox News and and posting these threads on Twitter. They’re sounding notes of indignation and outrage. All that is fine, but none of that matters if they fail to actually go and make arrests. Barack Obama himself should be in handcuffs. You cannot allege a treasonous conspiracy and then do nothing about it.
None of this is fine. In this country, we don’t arrest people for pissing off the Matt Walsh’s of the world. Note that he doesn’t even get into why Obama should be in handcuffs other than the fact that it might seem really cool to Walsh. It is not like the Democrats ever handcuffed Trump over sacking the Capitol, or even raping teen girls. They did, however, have their chance, and some of us were arguing that it needed to be done very quickly or not at all.
“Now, if I seem a bit cynical here, the typical pattern by Republicans since forever is to make these kinds of claims, but to make them only on social media and Fox News and to never actually bring it to a court of law so the parties responsible can be held accountable for their crimes. And I’m tired of it. I’m sick to death of it. Go arrest these people and bring them to justice. Funny memes and outraged soundbites on Fox News are not going to cut it anymore. Go make an arrest. Put somebody in prison.
Oh, it’s definitely not cynical because yes, yes – it is very typical of Republicans to make these claims, and it is very typical of them to never move on it because there’s no crime there, but they need to please people like Walsh and get them all atwitter. He probably feels “hot” just thinking about Obama in cuffs, and if there are homo-erotic overtones to that, blame Walsh, who seems quite preoccupied.
“And if you won’t do that, then what does any of this matter? Why should we care about any of this if you won’t follow it up by putting people in prison? In fact, I’ll say this. The consequences of these allegations from Tulsi must be one of two things — either top Obama officials are arrested or Tulsi Gabbard should be fired.”
Again, Tulsi Gabbard is, in theory, the country’s top spy. (Only the Trump administration, and I mean only the Trump administration, would put someone so obviously compromised by Russia as its top spy.) She is not a cop. She is not even Attorney General, nor a regular prosecutor. Apparently, either that doesn’t matter to Walsh, or he believes that anyone “in the know” in the Trump administration should have the power to arrest anyone they want. That is not as insane as it sounds given this administration.
Meanwhile, back at the Mar-a-White’o, Trump probably is up late at night, feverishly reposting the ridiculous memes made up by undersexed white 20-somethings, hoping to death (figuratively, we presume) that the nation might forget that he hasn’t released the Epstein list and it wouldn’t matter anyway because 1,000 FBI agents already flagged every mention of Trump in those files. So, of course, Trump has to come up with something.
The thing about Obama and the thing about frozen pizzas is that Trump still hasn’t released the Epstein files.
Next up, poor Joe Biden, who will be charged with continually having sex with his wife over decades and decades, openly casting aside otherwise perfectly healthy young(er) women, only to selfishly satiate Jill. The outrage. Where is the arrest?
It is probably not coming. I am cynical. Republicans do this all the time. Frozen pizza is done. And if there ever was an administration that would allow Gabbard to arrest people…
