Madison Cawthorn Sends Incredible Letter to Kamala Harris, Misaddressed and Misspelling Her Name

I thought at first that this was a parody post and it is in the sense that Madison Cawthorn himself is a parody of a congressman and a human being. But it looks to be a real thing. When I can get the entire letter I’ll update the post. This is his appeal to Kamala Harris to save the nation from Joe Biden, apparently.

First off, he misspells Kamala. Then he gets the address wrong. The Office of the Vice President is 1800 G Street NW., Washington, DC 20502, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, not the White House. So far he’s struck out in the first three lines.  I don’t know if “Madame” is a troll. Or this whole thing may be a troll.

Cawthorn seriously could not work as a trainee secretary in a lot of law offices, because trainees are expected to double check things like spelling and addresses. Cawthorn would be shown the door for these kinds of rookie mistakes. But then get into the substance of this epistle an it becomes truly comical.

If you take a writing class the concept of having ideas which are beyond your skill as a writer will come up. Stephen King spoke of his book Under The Dome. He said that he had the idea for it when he was a young man of 23 but at that point in his life he didn’t have the skill as a writer to realize the idea at that time. He said it took him decades to grow as a writer to where he could do justice to his concept. Here, Cawthorn is attempting to punch wayyyy above both his intellectual weight and his skill as a writer. He seems to believe that compiling lists of topics is the same as analyzing facts and ideas and leading the reader through an argument to a logical conclusion. Still, I cannot say that I am surprised. He seems to have problems writing his own name.

When you look at that signature, don’t you get the impression that Cawthorn is a character invented by Dr. Suess? I’m surprised he doesn’t put a little heart above the “i” in his first name. This is what comes when you spend your time beating dead trees with your fists and not studying penmanship or anything else.

I’m not sure I agree that they’re deliberate. I think it’s possible that Cawthorn put this together himself and whomever typed it was either afraid to say anything or didn’t know any better themselves. Or, this could be one giant troll. In Cawthorn’s “mind” this might be funny, who knows?

We’ll see how much, if any, publicity this gets and maybe we’ll know more. Interesting that you can be a dull normal in intelligence and lack enough basic English skills to write a competent business letter, but you can get elected to the House of Representatives in this country and pull down a tidy salary and affect peoples’ lives.
