Another mass shooting has hit America and it’s not the first mass shooting in recent history in Colorado, either. Lauren Boebert didn’t handle the March, 2021 Boulder shooting with much aplomb. Basically, she did nothing other than change her set. The image you see above has Boebert’s pre-Boulder shooting set on the left and then she decided to switch it out for the Colorado flag.
And this latest tragedy finds her equally non responsive. She’s chosen to blow off the Club Q, Colorado Springs mass shooting with the traditional “thoughts and prayers.”
The irony of this is lost on the woman. The rank and file among us can offer our thoughts and prayers. That, with our votes, and letters to elected officials, is all that we can offer. But Boebert is in a position to actually do something, to make something change and she doesn’t. She only makes things worse and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called her out on it.

Boebert, DeSantis, and the entire right wing have been fomenting anti-gay violence, specifically at drag shows, for years. The blood is on their hands. They may as well have loaded the guns themselves.

Boebert has always been in over her head. She ran on the Trump freak show ticket and got in handily, winning by over 20,000 votes. This election, she was predicting a red wave and had no doubt of her own infallibility at the ballot box, because redistricting put her in a solidly red district. Despite that, a Democrat was able to come within 554 votes of beating her.
Boebert is rudderless at this point. She can’t hang with Gaetz and Greene like she did, because they are bulletproof in a way that she clearly is not, at the ballot box. Yet, what else can she do? If she has a “brand” then right wing extremist MAGA loony is it and it’s a bit late in the game for the leopard to change her spots. Rolling Stone:
Not only is Boebert blindly pro-gun, she has also spread vicious, dangerous lies that LGBTQ+ people in the U.S. are “grooming” children. A report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate and the Human Rights Campaign found that Boebert was the third most influential Twitter account in the U.S. that spread the harmful and false “groomer narrative.” Her GOP colleague, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, was ranked number one. Meanwhile, hate crimes against LGBTQ+ people have been rising in areas of the U.S. and internationally. Experts have been warning that increases in anti-LGBTQ hate speech online can be seen as calls to action for extremists and extremist groups.
Boebert campaigned on her love of guns and when she was first elected, she pledged in an ad that she would “carry my Glock to Congress.” Following the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, as advocates called for stricter gun safety laws, Boebert posted on Twitter, saying, “You can’t legislate away evil.”
“Why even be in Congress if you don’t believe in doing your job?” Ocasio-Cortez responded to Boebert at the time. “Just quit and let someone who actually gives a damn do it instead of acting like a useless piece of furniture when babies are shot with AR-15s that we let teen boys impulse buy before they can legally have a beer.”
The third most influential hate account on Twitter. There’s a distinction that not everyone has.

Bottom line: Boebert is part of the problem, not part of the solution. I don’t see that changing. But the good news is, as close as she came to losing this last time, she may not last in 2024. Hope springs eternal, in all events.
