KIDS Shot Praying In Church (Again) Proves God Ain’t Listening to GOP ‘Thoughts and Prayers’

I waited until I got up this morning to write this. I wanted to scan the news to see what conservative reaction to yet another mass shooting/murder in a house of worship would be. Most outrageous is Fox personality and former GOP politician Trey Gowdy saying at least parents could take comfort that their kids were with Jesus now.  Get ready for more Draco Malfoy memes a-hole. I saw one, just one comment that only made my stomach turn instead of wanting to puke. I’ll get to that. My point is that again it’s ‘Thoughts and Prayers’ and if kids literally in church praying isn’t literal proof that bullshit doesn’t work what the hell is?

Oh, and to anyone offended by the title picture and caption: I’m thinking of a favorite cartoon of a crude drawing of medieval times where the guy’s hand is outstretched and he says to behold the field where he grows his ‘fvcks’ and says lay one’s eyes upon it and see that it is barren. Take your offended fee fees and shove them up where the sun don’t shine. Sideways. After loading them into your GUN.  Because once again we are dealing with an unspeakable tragedy and getting the same old worn out and meaningless crap from conservatives.

On their first day of school a Catholic school had their students attend a mass at church. It happens at parochial schools of every religion across this country. Common. Normal.  PRAYING. After blocking the doors a murderer opened fire. The stained glass windows didn’t stop the bullets, and neither did all the prayers floating through the church filled mostly with school children. When it was over two were dead and seventeen shot and sent to the hospital. Last I checked some of those who’s injuries were critical will survive. That’s a lot of people in church worshiping and PRAYING shot to hell.

Conservatives appear to want to hang their hats on saying the shooter was “TRANS!” and therefore it’s awful but NOT, repeat NOT a reason to go talking about gun control. If you hear or read ANY conservative asshole play the “Trans” card hit them with two words. A name: Dylan Root. He’s the racist prick who committed mass murder in a South Carolina church in 2015. It sparked enough outrage that then Gov. Nikki Haley actually did something many thought would never happen. She convinced the politicians there to take down that f**kin flag with the goddamned racist Confederate Battle flag on it.

It was “retired’ in a ceremony far more dignified than it should have been. Giving a few hours for people to walk by it laying on the ground to piss on it, then dousing it in gasoline and setting it on fire would have been appropriate. But my point is that Root and so many others who’ve shot up places of worship, or schools or shopping malls or concerts weren’t “Trans.” No, they were effed up mostly white males. ‘Straight’ white males.  “Thoughts and Prayers bounce off them like proposed gun control legislation bounces of conservatives.

Well, getting back on point we might not have become numb to this, but I’ll bet if you look at this list of mass shootings and murders in churches in the U.S. the length will make your blood run cold. In the last ten years along there have been FIFTEEN mass shootings/murders in houses of worship and religious schools.  Bluntly put, yesterday wasn’t the first one involving children. The list is quite a bit longer but I scrolled down to the end and something jumped out at me. Prior to 1980 only ONE was on record. All the way back in 1884 some anti-Morman asshole went on a rampage. My point is that this is a modern problem and it’s getting worse by the year.

Mass shootings happen every week, almost every day in fact and not just in places of worship as you well know. NOWHERE is safe from them except perhaps the large meeting halls at NRA conventions. You think all the gun goobers get to go in there ‘packing?’ Not only no but HELL NO!!!! There are scanners and even body searches. They don’t even trust their own effing members. The very people who PREACH that virtually everyone (well, if they’re white at least) has a by god right to own and carry any goddamned firearm they want including those designed specifically to kill and maim as many people as possible in as short a time as possible in combat aren’t about to take a chance. They literally fear one of their own going nuts in the middle of a large gathering. And the carnage that would ensue when their ‘good guys with guns’ decided to take action not knowing who was a ‘good’ guy and who was a ‘bad’ one.

Anyway once again we are being fed a diet of meaningless platitudes – the “Thoughts and Prayers” bullshit. And if you don’t like my language too bad because it’s actually nastier and more foul than a fresh, wet ‘cow-flop.’ I say that while some might be genuinely upset and pray that somehow the violence will magically end their “Thoughts and Prayers” include an extra part they DON’T mention. Thoughts of fear about their reputations if they actually tried to fix the problem with meaningful gun control, and prayers that they won’t have to even talk about standing up and DOING WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE!  Worse, some pray they can get MORE guns! (And ammo for them of course)

No other country in the world experiences these mass shootings at anywhere near the rate we do. Add up the entire world and there aren’t as many in a year as a month, sometimes a single week in the United States. It’s no mystery why.

Conservatives have furiously worked since Reagan came along to weaken and then overturn gun regulations/laws while also packing the courts with judges and Justices that would help them. Then when the NRA’s champagne tastes of its leadership was greater than its beer budget (many are surprised to learn the NRA only has a couple million members or so all this time) they entered into a partnership with gun manufacturers. The latter was dazzled by dollar signs dancing in their heads with a militant NRA threatening the officials of an entire major Party and scaring more than enough of the other into submission to put overturning of gun regulation on steroids.  Now there are more guns than people in this country and fewer laws restricting who can buy them and where they can carry them!

Mass shootings resulting in death and maimed for life bodies, and psychological scars are the price. And even though as I keep saying even people in church literally praying aren’t safe from mass shooters it’s the same old “Thoughts and Prayers” from conservatives.

GOD   IS  NOT  LISTENING!

If God is saying anything it’s ‘You assholes made this mess so you have a choice – clean it up or go to hell.”  Speaking for myself I don’t want to hear excuses about how HARD it would be to regulate guns to a sensible point like they were when I was growing up.  Or even after the Assault Weapons Ban was passed under Clinton. The problem improved some while it was in effect but conservatives did away with it and things have gotten worse with each passing year.  The plain fact is that not everyone should be able to own and/or wield a gun.  ‘But the second amendment’ conservatives cry out. The fact is that even when it was adopted gun control existed in lots of places.  You don’t have to amend the Constitution. Just get judges and Justices who look at the WHOLE second amendment and history. Who recognize that unlike then, this country no longer depends on local militias for the national defense.

That’s a longer topic to discuss but it’s something to keep in mind. The lack of meaningful gun control is a fairly recent development, fueled in no small part by the Federalist Society agenda.  Well, we are living but more importantly people are DYING over what they’ve wrought. Including children. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for people under seventeen. When I was a kid (I’m in my late sixties now) we had “disaster drills” in school. Where to go and what to do if the tornado sirens went off. Also the ‘duck and cover’ nonsense if we saw a nuclear fireball and/or mushroom cloud. How hiding under a wooden desk would protect us from a nuclear fireball seemed stupid then and still does. The bad weather stuff made sense though and still does.

We SHOULD, even conservatives, be OUTRAGED that we now have more than one generation of kids growing up doing active shooter drills each month. Even some workplaces have instructions, if not drills on what to do.  Guns including and especially guns specifically designed not for hunting game but TO KILL OTHER HUMAN BEINGS have more rights than you and I do to just live without getting shot. As does any irresponsible, disturbed person or person with anger management issues to walk into a gun store and buy one. Or more.

I could go on about this all day.  However I did mention seeing one reference from a well known GOPer. Under Melania’s name a short statement was put out saying we need to be preemptive, that if we ‘see something’ then say something. To someone I guess.  I haven’t read it or so much as seen a screenshot on TV and pundits being less than impressed. She didn’t of course say anything about reinstating some gun control laws or anything that might actually DO something.

I’ll bet if there was a mass shooting at NYU and her son Barron was in one of the buildings or even on campus elsewhere she’d be rather more forceful!  Since few children of elected officials or appointed ones attend public schools in DC, I can’t help but wonder if, despite all the considerable security (which includes diplomatic and sometimes even Secret Service) someone got in and shot up Sidwell Friends or one of the other elite private schools THEIR kids attend.

Well, I’ll wrap this up by repeating myself saying if there’s a God, then “Thoughts and Prayers’ clearly have no effect. It’s going to take action. Action a small but LOUD number of gun goober fetishists will object to but we can at least start with some hugely popular items like universal background checks. And more “Red Flag” laws with actual teeth. It’s not nearly enough but it’s a start.
