We are certainly getting some wild stories from Ukraine or in relation to the Ukraine/Russian war. Yesterday it was reported that bloody packages containing animal eyes were being shipped to Ukrainian embassies across Europe. It was speculated by Ukraine that Russia was doing this, their logic being, who benefits?

Then the New York Post broke a story that Vladimir Putin fell down five stairs in his Moscow residence Wednesday night, which caused him to “involuntarily defecate” due to issues with stomach cancer. Putin also allegedly suffers from Parkinson’s, according to the Telegram channel “General SVR,” which purports to be run by a former Russian spy.

The incident is the latest health scare for Putin, who is rumored to be suffering from worsening cancer and Parkinson’s disease amid the ongoing war with Ukraine.

The ailing Russian leader allegedly fell down five steps before landing on his coccyx, or tailbone.

Although his security guards immediately rushed to his aid, the impact of the fall caused Putin to “involuntarily defecate” due to “cancer affecting his stomach and bowels,” according to the channel.  […]

Three bodyguards helped the president get to the nearest couch and summoned medics, who are on duty at the residence,” General SVR said.

“Nothing critical [was diagnosed], the president’s condition closer to nighttime was stable, he can get around on his own, with pain in the coccyx area while sitting being the only thing that bothers him.”

The Post also reports that one day later Putin was photographed touring a laboratory in Moscow, seemingly okay.

A few weeks earlier, General SVR called out Putin’s shaky stance during a meeting with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

“Putin’s oncology is progressing and, despite adequate treatment lately, the pain is not always completely relieved,” the channel claimed.

“It must be understood that the deplorable state of the president’s physical and mental health affects the adoption of key decisions. Putin doesn’t want to change history, he wants to end it.”

We’re dealing with a totally different culture here. There’s no way an American president would be in this condition and be running a war, but this is Russia we’re talking about. Or, this could be fake news. This is the New York Post we’re quoting, although, in fairness, they haven’t descended to National Enquirer levels yet.

    • Again, we are dealing with a different culture where nothing is transparent. So these could be the gospel truth, or they could be completely made up. This is what drives me crazy, is lack of transparency. But Russia has always been this way.

  1. The problem as I see it is neither Putin or Trump will accept they are just mere mortals headed for the grave. Malignant narcissism is terrible in and of itself, but when that personality is given the ultimate power of nukes, it’s a very very dangerous situation. They are unable to discern anything or anyone other than their own sick personality. As the reality of death, sickness, disability closes in on them, they would potentially end the world since THEY are the world in their myopic view. That’s how they can murder children, create mass suffering and then go eat dinner without guilt. You have to have a conscience to have guilt. They have none. Let’s hope the sane people around them realize the danger & take the steps to neutralize them as things go south.

  2. On the question of “who benefits”, you have to ask yourself who would have the most to gain from this exaggerated report (to be clear, I’m sure that Putin is in bad to terminal shape but those Post details reek of smear BS). I have one such suspect: Navalny, owner of his news website Meduza, survivor of a Putin poisoning and contender for the throne Putin is due to vacate.

However, memories of misplaced leftist sympathy for the Soviets should guide us here. Navalny is no hero, no “reformer” and certainly no one we should trust. He’s perfectly in sync with Putin on Ukraine, for instance, and is a firm believer in keeping power concentrated in Moscow at the expense of everywhere. Stuff like that is enough to make me root for the breakup of all of Russia, horrible though that would be.

  3. One of the tragedies of the Trump Presidency was the gutting of our intelligence (and counter-intelligence) resources. We had some reliable sources prior to Trump including one reportedly in the Kremlin that had some level of access to Putin. Trump’s actions caused all that to get shut down and probably some of those people were sold out by Trump early on (remember that meeting in the Oval that Trump tried to keep secret?) and after being wrung out by Russian interrogators wound up in unmarked graves. The fact is this could all be disinformation, or it could be true. We just don’t know. I do think some of what we’ve seen indicates Putin has medical issues. If we are very lucky that stain on humanity will die (preferably a painful, horrible death) soon. But I don’t think we or more importantly Ukraine will be that lucky. Our best hope is that his own people take him out. Assassinate him.

And then try to salvage some kind of settlement that doesn’t crush Russia for its actions in Ukraine.
