Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be idiot lawyers and if they do anyway, don’t let them defend Sidney Powell, Lin Wood and the rest of Team Kraken in a Rule 11 sanctions hearing in Michigan, because they’re only going to look like total fools.

You’ve heard of putting the cart before the horse? Well, the Kraken lawyers have not, apparently. They’re insisting that they should have an evidentiary hearing, when they didn’t do minimal due diligence to begin with. The judge’s head is spinning. This isn’t her first time at the rodeo with these people, either.

More than half a year ago on Dec. 7, Judge Parker decisively rejected Powell and Wood’s effort to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory in Michigan in a scathing, 36-page ruling.

“Plaintiffs ask this court to ignore the orderly statutory scheme established to challenge elections and to ignore the will of millions of voters,” Parker wrote. “This, the Court cannot, and will not, do.”

“The People have spoken,” she added.

Now listen to this. This is Lin Wood digging his grave even deeper.

If Lin Wood is telling the truth, then that would be a fraudulent filing, and illegal as hell. And Wood is just now informing the court of this? Or, alternatively, Wood is lying to the judge now and you saw where lying to the court got Rudy.

Now this is good. When the judge asks if any of the lawyers made inquiry to identify any of the poll workers, dead silence.

“Layers of hearsay.” Wow.

Here’s another jewel. The judge asks for the basis of the belief in the affidavits and the response is hypotheticals. That isn’t holding too much water, either.

Now here’s my personal favorite, where Kraken counsel identifies as not a form of vegetation. That’s better than that viral Zoom meeting where the lawyer declared, “I am not a cat.”

What’s up with the guy in box two, top row, eating chips and dip? Any ideas?

This is how it concluded. Law and Crime:

“This is really fantastical,” Parker said.

“How could any of you as officers of the court submit this affidavit?” she added.

When Haller denied that the declaration was “fantastical,” Judge Parker added that the affidavit was “total speculation.” Throughout arguments, Haller repeatedly requested an evidentiary hearing, and she seemed audibly nervous in court, her voice appearing to waver at moments. The judge replied that she was probing what, if any, due-diligence the lawyers performed.

In bitter closing remarks, Powell claimed that the daylong proceedings make the public lack confidence in U.S. elections and the judiciary.

“Thank you for your remarks,” Judge Parker politely replied to Powell’s recriminations, adding that a ruling would be forthcoming. The judge also agreed to give the parties time for supplemental written briefings.

This is exactly the problem, that the Big Lie promulgated by these lawyers undermines the confidence of the public in elections and the courts. The damage to our institutions in the Trump era has been phenomenal. And it continues. A month from tomorrow, so the wingnut legend goes, Trump will be restored to the White House. Who knows how many foolish people are holding their breath, waiting for this non-eventuality. More importantly, who knows what they will do when it doesn’t happen. We saw January 6 spiral out of control.

  1. What happened to the tweets? I watched them all as soon as you posted the article and found it rather startling to see Greg Rohl (upper row, second from the left, white shirt, dark vest) apparently eating chips and then lighting a cigarette??? in front of a Federal Judge? Then, to check what I saw, I tried again and all the tweets are deleted. Is it illegal to post court proceedings without permission?

  2. I was following the livetweets of Mike Dunford and Akiva Cohen, both lawyers. They were floored by the responses (such as they were) of the Kraken lawyers. (They also expect some of the Kraken lawyers to lose privileges in Michigan, if not elsewhere.)
