As you know, folks are making fun of SecDef Pete Hegseth (and his boss Trump too) over his strutting and posturing in front of almost all our nation’s top military leaders recently. It seems some of them have privately shared their thoughts, and of course retired leaders are going on the record. Remember George C. Scott’s opening speech in Patton? He tried to evoke that same command presence and flopped, as did Trump. It was “Pathetic Patton and people saying so has Pretty Little Petey’s fee fees all butt-hurt.  Naturally he wants to know who’s been poking fun at him, or is pissed about the waste of their time etc.  So once again we’ve got him talking about forcing people to submit to polygraph exam. Lie Detectors.

I’m sure what Hegesth really wants is thumbscrews and waterboarding. When, as this article from The Mirror US notes he talks of using all the tools available you have to wonder how far he’ll go. For the moment the only thing for sure is he’s again talking about forcing people to take Lie Detector tests. That’s bad enough. I for one wonder how invasive the questions might become.  So I say YOU FIRST PETE!

Remember SignalGate? I’ll bet like me you’d bet the farm that’s not the only time Hegesth leaded information, classified information (to people with no clearance) in a ‘Hey, check this out’ cavalier type attitude. Or got drunk and tried to get laid by impressing some gal with some juicy info.  Which leads me to the kind of things I’d ask Hegseth if I was administering a polygraph to HIM:

  • Have you ever knowingly leaked classified information?
  • More than once?
  • More than five times?
  • Have you authorized others to leak information?
  • Was the SignalGate chat we know about the only time you’ve done that?
  • You promised if confirmed you’d stop drinking. Have you?
  • Have you made sexual advances towards females in your work environment?
  • Has any female staffer told you you’re comments were inappropriate?

Those are just some of the questions that first popped into my head. I’m sure I could come up with more and so can anyone reading this. In fact please do. Just keep in mind a question for a polygraph exam needs to be structured to get one of only two answers – Yes or No.  In the meantime I suspect we’ll keep hearing storied about how lame the ‘Trumpseth’ show was. They can’t stop retired leaders from speaking out.

Technically they could recall them (Officers at least) to active duty and bring charges. THAT would be a bad look though. Prosecuting those no longer on active for exercising First Amendment rights. Is Trumpty batshit insane enough to sign an Executive Order making any critical or mocking comments from any person active duty or retired CLASSIFIED?  At this point all bets are off.  With Hegseth clamping down on journalists even being able to move around the Pentagon it will be harder to get information.

However a building with 25k people working in it is going to have leaks. Most of them insignificant. But some of them not.  Hegesth is trying to put fingers and toes into a Hoover Dam that’s been shot up by 20mm aircraft cannon fire.
