This will probably hardly register as a blip because we are averaging one mass shooting a day in this country, but it is yet another day of horror. Shortly after midnight on Mother’s Day, a gunman walked into a birthday party in a trailer park in Colorado Spring, Colorado, and killed six people and then killed himself. Associated Press:
Officers arrived at a trailer to find six dead adults and a man with serious injuries who died later at a hospital, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported.
The suspected shooter was the boyfriend of a female victim at the party attended by friends, family and children. He walked inside and opened fire before shooting himself, police said.
The birthday party was for one of the people killed, police said.
Neighbor Yenifer Reyes told The Denver Post she woke to the sound of many gunshots.
“I thought it was a thunderstorm,” Reyes said. “Then I started hearing sirens.”
Police brought children out of the trailer and put them into at least one patrol car, she said, adding that the children were “crying hysterically.” […]
It was Colorado’s worst mass shooting since a gunman killed 10 people at a Boulder supermarket March 22. […]
In 2015, a man shot three people to death at random before dying in a shootout with police in Colorado Springs on Halloween. Less than a month later, a man killed three people, including a police officer, and injured eight others in a shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in the city.
We are all living inside a horror story, where some aggrieved loony, on any given day, is going to go out and massacre people. This is what the NRA hath wrought.
The Columbine school massacre was a huge story for weeks and well it should have been. But now we are getting jaded. The death of Americans from sudden violence doesn’t impact us the way it should. We are literally shell shocked.

Forgive me if the following comment seems beyond the pale but I’m waiting for the day when we’ll finally get some action taken to get sensible gun control measures past but I don’t see that happening until NRA headquarters or an NRA convention becomes the setting for a mass shooting. (Of course, most NRA conventions are held in facilities that BAN any sort of functional firearms within the building aside from people with legitimate security reasons–like the police or facility security personnel. I’m not sure if the NRA “regulates” firearms and their use within their headquarters but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least that the NRA would be such hypocrites that they want everyone armed to the teeth and carrying loaded weapons everywhere in the country EXCEPT for NRA headquarters–then you have to have special permission to carry a loaded weapon on your person, openly or concealed.)
We know the 2A loonies in Congress aren’t going to let anything happen–even if lunatics break into the halls of Congress with loaded weapons with the intention of hunting down and possibly killing members of Congress. But maybe if something happened that put the bigwigs in the NRA and their families in the literal line of fire (and on a monthly, or more frequently, basis), things would change.
Again, I’m not really wishing any harm to anyone but until/unless the NRA become targets of mass shooters, the group is simply not going to let anyone interfere with their moneymaking racket.
That day is likely coming for them or for one or more of their pet politicians. It’s what they live in fear of, suffering the nightmares they themselves have subjected others to. The Trump cult is likely acting as an accelerant for that day’s arrival.
Something Malcolm X said about the JFK assassination has always stuck with me. To wit, he called it “the chickens coming home to roost”, saying that he saw a level of hatred in such white people that inevitably turns inward. So it shall be for the ammosexuals…and gods help me, how I wish that weren’t true.
The report of Ted Cruz’s increased security spending is pretty much validation of the concept. Besides accelerating gun ownership, their nasty rhetoric and actions actually incite this sort of behavior IMHO.
The idea that strict gun laws don’t matter is bullshit. Japan averages less than 100 gun deaths a year with 127 million people crammed in small land masses. That’s just a weekend in Vegas for us. The profit driven gun industry doesn’t care if the bodies pile up, only that the greenbacks do. Another win for the stockholders/ lobbyists/republicans.
We have a BIG problem with guns in this country . We have more guns than people ! It’s crazy ..
