You know what a day and age we live in when the extramarital affair of a congressman from Texas, with six childen no less, resulting in the literally pyrotechnic suicide of his mistress (self immolation with gasoline) is pushed off the front page because we’re too busy with 1. Trump bulldozing the White House; 2. Trump shitting on protesters in an AI video; 3. Trump threatening violent retaliation against Hamas after his much-vaunted peace deal collapses after a week and so on and so forth. So let us take a moment to see other GOP news, although it’s not Trump centered.

Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales allegedly had an affair with a senior aide who later died after dousing herself with gasoline and setting herself on fire, multiple sources have told the Daily Mail.
Regina Aviles, 35, poured gasoline over herself before becoming engulfed in flames at her home on September 13 in Uvalde, Texas – about two hours west of San Antonio.
That’s all that I can find at this early hour but it is a strange story. I frankly find it hard to believe that a woman with a kid would end her life that way but then again we live in insane times. When Trump was first elected I speculated that maybe the planet had passed through some kind of a cosmic cloud and everybody was going nuts from it. Now, almost ten years later, I’m beginning to wonder if some atypical cosmic something is in fact affecting us, for real, or if we’re just going mad for other reasons which have yet to be explained. Rats go mad when faced with overcrowding conditions, maybe some intrinsic mechanism like that is at play.
I can’t wait until this congressman begins talking about family values. I just love this new iteration of the party of family values. Abortion is such a big deal to the GOP, as you are all too painfully aware, but I guess extramarital affairs driving a person to violent death is somehow a pro-life stance? Anybody want to figure out how this congressman is going to square GOP ideology with this situation?
It is tragic. What makes it even more tragic is now it’s DARVO time and expect Gonzalez to avoid this issue like the plague. Also expect it not to affect his political career –except maybe to help it. Once Trump gets wind of this, Gonzalez will be the new George Santos. Anything happens to him, never fear, King Donald will handle it.

you are correct. i forgot about indian women throwing themselves on their husband’s funeral pyres, but i think this is different.
I was thinking that maybe she was pregnant and since he most likely would not have married her (being already married and having six kids with another woman) she chose that path. Now granted, this is me playing novelist. I have no idea what motivated Regina Aviles to check out that way. She may have simply been fired and decided she was going to make Gonzalez regret that firing for the rest of his born days.
All we know is that there is a back story of some dimension because this is not everyday behavior, even for lovers having a spat.
