I’ve most often been critical of North Carolina Senator Thom Tills. Both here on Politizoom and frequently directly to his offices both in DC and in the Raleigh area. However I’ve also given credit when due and this is one of those times. Although Tillis ‘softened’ his criticism with a comment about crime in DC he asked a VERY inconvenient (to Trump and the GOP) about crime in RED states!
For the record I’m not a native Carolinian. I transferred here eleven years ago. Despite being forced into early retirement on disability I’ve stayed, living in the Raleigh area. So I’ve followed NC politics and that means Tillis. Like I said I’ve been mostly critical and especially since announcing his retirement at the end of his current term his usually supporting Trump. That’s why I was both stunned and pleased to see this article from Alternet. Trump will go ballistic when he learns what Tillis said. As I’ve noted while on The Takeout Podcast today that ‘DC has a crime problem’ he wasn’t finished talking about cities with crime problems and singling out RED states they’re located in:
But where do we stop? Do we honestly think that D.C. has the worst problem in the U.S.?… Do we go to Gary, Indiana? Detroit? Memphis, a red state that’s got a crime problem?”
This on the day Trump was supposed to be doing a Cops version of his Reality TV show Presidency. I mentioned being disappointed with too many Tillis votes since he said he was done. I thought, well maybe hoped is a better word he was feeling guilt about the damage he’s enabled and would stand up to Trump more often than he has. THIS is a ‘bigly’ slap in Trumpty’s fat orange face. I wouldn’t go so far as to say Tillis no longer has any ‘f**ks to give but it’s a big step in that direction.

How likely do you think it is Trump would federalize the solidly red state Indiana’s National Guard to the streets of Gary which has a longstanding crime problem? Or Memphis in the RUBY RED state of Tennessee? The hypocrisy Tillis pointed out is something Democrats need to jump on and right freaking now. I say that because Trump has increased the number of Guard troops in DC and worse, he’s having some start carrying weapons. I saw it suggested somewhere the other day he wants to create a Kent State type of event. He thinks that would give him grounds to declare Martial Law.
I have doubts it would unfold the way Trump wants. Troops including National Guard troops are far more selectively allowed to serve and much better trained that those goobers in Ohio during the Vietnam war. Let’s hope a situation isn’t manufactured by Team Trump where we find out.

He wants Martial Law AND a war. He made a point during his meeting with Zelensky that Ukraine doesn’t have elections when the country is in a war. Now I believe he’s sending our ships to Venezuela to start a war. We’re “fooked”!
Well, there is the fact that the country continued holding elections (a midterm election for members of Congress and a presidential election) during the Civil War and we also continued holding elections during WW2 (two elections for members of Congress and an election for President). Even during Korea and Vietnam, this country held elections (including for President).
The DIFFERENCE, it should be noted, is that Ukraine has been invaded by a hostile power bent on conquering the country whereas the United States has not suffered an invasion by a foreign power since the War of 1812 (even then, Congressional elections were held in 1814 and the 1812 Presidential election was held AFTER war had been declared against the United Kingdom and its Empire; and British forces based in Canada invaded the US in 1813 and then British naval vessels and forces actually invaded the US, even burning the White House in 1814).
Also, Drumpf needs to remember that even though Putin has “allowed” elections to be held in Russia during its war against Ukraine, no one would describe a Putin-era election as “free” or “fair” (considering the only people allowed to run for any political office in Russia MUST be approved by Putin and his cronies–including those who “oppose” Putin).
Too little too late yahoo. You could have voted to impeach him TWICE when the evidence was clear.
