This is either a Fox News publicity stunt which has gone too far, or maybe state lines will be redrawn in dramatic ways if this is real and it catches on. As you’ve probably heard, three western Maryland counties want to secede from Maryland and become a part of West Virginia. What’s that you say? Who in their right mind would want to leave the 15th largest economy in the nation and move to the 48th? Beats the hell out of me.

There is no way to parse this so that it sounds like anything other than a stupid publicity stunt. So let’s just use Occam’s Razor and call it that.
Now whatever gave anyone the idea that Trumpettes and Republiqnanos had any sense??????
Same with the red counties of eastern Washington and Oregon, and northeastern CA.
They don’t seem to realize that the urban areas they hate are paying for them to have nice things.
In way-north-and-northeast California, we have proponents of the “State of Jefferson.” To be fair, they’ve been asking for secession long before WW2 started, so this is not new.
But the amount of money they make is enough to pay for one State Route, Highway 91. Look at a map and see how many other routes in NE CA would have to go back to dirt or macadam.
As PJ noted, the urban areas they loathe are the ones paying for roads, hospitals and other conveniences of modern civilization.

I drove thru West Virginia once. Worst dam roads I ever seen. And that was back when they made an attempt at working on them. And like you said, worst economy in the country. Anybody would have to be looney tunes. Oh, you say republicans. Well there you go. Question answered.
