A lot of enemies get made in politics. That’s certainly nothing new. But Matt Gaetz has gone out of his way to make them. His persecution of Kevin McCarthy was always ill advised and it looks like that, and other things, have come back to haunt him. The House voted by secret ballot to allow Gaetz’ ethics report to be released by the end of this congressional term, which is in a few days. Gaetz is livid and he’s lashed out on social media with a defense. Let’s see how far this gets him.

The tweet ends, “I live a different life now. But at least I didn’t vote for CR’s [sic] which fuck over the country.” Loony to the last. Now the question is whether, since we live in the upside down in this day and age, the Gaetz revelations will actually help him become the next governor of Florida.

Calling it a “stark reversal,” CNN, in an exclusive, reported Wednesday that the “House Ethics Committee secretly voted earlier this month to release its report into the conduct of former Rep. Matt Gaetz before the end of this Congress, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the matter.”

CNN also noted that the House Ethics Committee’s vote last month to not release the report was made when Gaetz was Trump’s nominee to become Attorney General. “Since then, Gaetz withdrew himself from consideration for the Senate-confirmed post, though he maintains frosty relations with many in his party and is still active in GOP politics.”

Last month, NBC reported that a “woman told the House Ethics Committee that she saw Matt Gaetz, who is President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for the U.S. attorney general, have sex with a minor, her lawyer said.”

Gaetz released a statement declaring that he had been “FULLY EXONERATED” by the Biden Dept. of Justice. The DOJ reportedly only declined to bring charges against the former Congressman.

Gaetz is pretty peeved. He knows what’s in the report. And the rest of us are about the find out. Whether it will tank his political career for good or boost it somehow remains to be seen. I personally think that once Gaetz runs for statewide office he’s going to find out how unpopular he is. But again, we do live in a political upside down world.
