This week the Furkids chose a favourite song by one of their favourites: singer, actor and activist, Harry Belafonte. Though the Furkids love this song and sing along to it in their own language (which can be a bit disconcerting when it’s a low rumbling growl from one of the big cats), they say the words aren’t quite right (this happens a lot). However, on this occasion, I did manage to talk them into keeping most of the original lyrics.
I should also explain that their Aunt Marti, of whom they are extremely fond, has a black furkid of the feline persuasion who arrived in her life with the name of Shadow. The first line of this song is about shadows falling which, using furkid reasoning, became Shadows falling. That meant we needed an illustration depicting two black cats named Shadow, depicted in the act of falling. So we have their Aunt Marti’s Shadow with a second feline of that name to help out. (While helping the Furkids is the most wonderful job in the world, it can be unexpectedly challenging at times.)
They’ve just reminded me that there is one more thing they wanted to say. They are dedicating this song to two of their beloved aunties who are recovering from surgery: Aunt Debbie and Aunty Linda. And they want you to know you are beautiful!

🥰🤩 Just wonderful!! I’m a little late in saying “May the Fourth Be With You” today, but the force is certainly strong with the furkids and, with Harry, they sure perked me up! It reminded me to add some frothies money because these loves I do adore them. And because I learned something from them today! I never knew that tigers have “eyes” on the backs of their ears! White flashes on black is quite stylish! Happy recovery to the Aunties!! 🥳
