The furbabies, or ‘littlies’ as we like to call them, love it when there’s a full moon because they’re allowed to stay up a little longer to see it. One of the littlies asked if she could stay up long enough to see the full moon back in January. That’s when we checked the Moon Calendar and discovered… oh dear, there wasn’t going to be a full moon in the sky that night, not even close. It would be a new moon rising, a very new moon, so very little of it would be visible at all.

But a quick study of the Moon Calendar affirmed that May 15 for the Northern Hemisphere and May 16 for the Southern Hemisphere would be the ideal dates. And here we are! My but time passes quickly when you’re having fun with the Furkids!

Naturally, they wanted some ‘moon music’ for the occasion. Neil Young’s Harvest Moon is one of their many favourites so it was an easy choice this week.

The coins – yes, more chocolate coins, this time from Mother’s Day (no, I don’t know why they had chocolate coins for Mama’s Day) are now in the jukebox so it’s all ready to go. Just press play then scroll down. The guitar intro is first, followed by the lyrics so you can sing along with Neil!

  2. This is one of your best. I LOVE the chipmunks with harmonicas! My Lord, that is a great image! Never saw that one before.

I had a Persian cat who sat all night in the window every single full moon. He loved the full moon. I guess he could see things out there, or something. All I know is that he was glued to the window sill.

Also, and I swear this is a true story but it sounds strange: the catnip plant in the kitchen used to grow more during the full moon. Seriously. I haven’t had a catnip plant in years but I think I’ll get one and see if that still happens, or if it was some magic of living four miles from the Pacific ocean.

  3. I think I’ll get a catnip plant too and check it out this end.
I do know that more babies are born on a full moon. Maternity ward staff are always busier on those days!
