December means many things to furkids. In the north, it means chilly weather while those in the south are coping with heat and humidity. But whichever hemisphere they’re in, they know it’s Catmas time and that means feasting and present-giving and singing!

It also means the Furkids are busily working on their Catmas Speshal – the Twelve Days of Catmas – which begins tomorrow and posts every day all the way up to Catmas Eve.

For today’s post, they asked me for the heart-wrenching aria about the puppy who wants a kitty for Catmas. I couldn’t for the life of me think of any opera that featured puppies or kitties. But they insisted there was… “You know, the ‘dear papa’ one by Giacomo Pussini.” Oh right, yes, that one.

Needless to say, their lyrics differ somewhat from Puccini’s original but I have to agree that their version fits in nicely with Catmas.

On the jukebox, American soprano Renée Fleming sings O Mio Babbino Caro accompanied by the Berliner Philharmonika conducted by Ion Marin. Just press play then scroll down through the illustrated lyrics and, in your best opera voice, sing along!
NB: I’ve included a second video in case this one doesn’t work for you.

  1. {{{Michelle}}} The furkids do some *very* interesting translations sometimes. LOL. They *do* remember that little kittehs grow up to be cats, right? Ms. Loula certainly did. Skitches to her. Healing Energy & moar {{{HUGS}}} to you.

    • I suspect the furkids know that opera wasn’t meant to make sense – the words are there only so beautiful voices have something to sing to the beautiful music!
      Love and hugs ???Barbara??? to you and scritches to ???Charlie, Cloud, Freddie, Bobbie, Murf and Rennie???

    • I’ve been head-down, tail-up all weekend to get the 12 days ready. Yes, I’m recycling past days but even so, there was so much more I wanted to do!

      • Of course. It’s work. And you are a perfectionist when it comes to these (probably elsewhere too of course). You want them to be exactly *right*. They will be. & more. They will be blessings. moar {{{HUGS}}}

    • Isn’t she wonderful! Beautiful with such a radiant smile as well as a fabulous voice! I’m hopeful that the furkids will dip into more opera next year.
